The St Georges Park Brass Band

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k87wyxb9fs&w=500&h=400]The St Georges Brass Band has become an institution at the St Georges Park Cricket Ground over the years.  Some people join in with them singing their lungs out while others despise the noise. Regardless of this it is hard to deny that the band has given St Georges a very unique atmosphere and once the local team gets their tails up and the band gets involved, its hard to stop the wave washing over the opposition.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZi08gPyuQ8&w=500&h=400]The Shamwari Private Game Reserve is world famous and everybody knows about it, but have you ever been there?  I used to go there quite often with guests when I was still a tourist guide and they still did day visits.  Perhaps by posting this and asking very nicely somebody will pop me an invite... *wink*  Anyhow, Shamwari is a stunning place and you can at least get a taste of it in this promotional video I picked up on YouTube.

Ironman African Championship video

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/OIfF88IRZas&source=udsWith Ironman 70.3 taking place in East London this weekend I thought it to be appropriate to post this awesome promotional video that has been put together for this year's Ironman African Championship here in Port Elizabeth.  I can see there is a bit of confusion out there,  Yes, Ironman South Africa is now known as Ironman African Championship and is one of only five championship level events in the world.  It means more prestige, more entries and more international…

Remembering Dolly and Domino

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/XMfyng2j4IQ&source=udsThe dolphins at the Port Elizabeth Oceanarium at Bayworld was synonymous with Port Elizabeth for a very long time until the last two, Domino and Dumisa, was moved to a Ocean Park in Hong Kong.  Although they were moved there in 2009 already there are still out of town visitors that come to the city asking if there are dolphin shows.  This post isn't about keeping dolphins in captivity, doing dolphin presentations or part of a debate whether we should have dolphins…

Christmas lights video

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/eAxVWQHXnQU&source=udsI went digging around YouTube for a Port Elizabeth Christmas related vid for this week's video and I came across this one posted on Alan Straton of MyPE's channel last year.  It shows Gordon Wearne from Sunridge Park's magnificent multimedia Christmas Light Display along with music broadcasted on 102 FM.  Visitors can then park in the road and listen to the music over their car radios while watching the lights. I'm not sure if Gordon has his lights up this year but even if not…

Whale watching in Algoa Bay

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/a_iY6AeMtyA&source=udsAlan Fogarty of Alan Tours offers a Big 7 tour that starts off with a whale watching excursion with Raggy Charters before heading to Addo to find the rest of the Big 5.  Whales visit our shores mostly between April and November with Southern Right and Humpback whales being the big boys to look out for.  I picked up this whale watching video on YouTube taken on one of Alan's tours.

Airshow cockpit footage

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/geLUD9560hA&source=udsA couple of weeks ago the very successful Baywest Port Elizabeth Airshow took place at the PE Airport.  I came across this rad video on the Algoa FM channel featuring some GoPro action from inside the cockpit of one of the planes taking part in the airshow.
