Spar Ladies Race

This morning the Spar Ladies Race took place on the beachfront. It consist of 5km and 10km races. The Port Elizabeth leg of the race is one of the biggest in the country with nearly 10 000 entries. Most of the participants take part in the 5km which is mostly a fun walk with big and small as well as young and old taking part while the 10km is a much more serious race with some of the best runners…

Kite surfing

The wind out at Cape St Francis was just right for the kite surfers to come out and play. The wind was on-shore and the guys were gunning it up and down the beach in the shallows. Chaos Boy was mesmerised by these guys being dragged around the sea by their big kites. I imagined him thinking something like: "One day when I'm big..." …and over she goes

One of the competitors in a 4x4 challenge at Bishpig Adventure Camp off Kragga Kamma Road misjudging the distance to the hole and tipping over. Driver Jeff and co-driver Winneray was ok and went on to complete the rest of the challenges without further mishaps.

Just beyond the Cascades Hotel in Sun City is a golfer's paradise. Duckpond Pavilion

If you are a cricket fan and have followed any matches played in Port Elizabeth, you will be familiar with the famous Duckpond Pavilion. It got its name from the fact that it was build next to the duckpond, in St Georges Park. Though the pond is still there the ducks have long since disappeared.

Opening game skies

Last week Wednesday night I went to the opening game of the South Africa 2009 Pro20 cricket series with Hoender (Hoender is my brother and is Afrikaans for chicken. Surf’s Up

Today is the first Christmas in years that it has not rained in Port Elizabeth. It was in fact a perfect sun-shiny day. Though the beaches were fairly quiet this morning, the surfers took the opportunity to make the most of the waves at Something Good.

harnessing the wind

Staying with the airshow, there were two parachute drops at the airshow, in the course of the morning.The first team was the golden eagles, of the Police special task force. They jumped from a Spanish Casa, landing with pinpoint accuracy, right in front of the crowd.Later another team from EP Skydivers in Grahamstown jumped, and amongst their group was a tandem jump, with Crystal Watson. Endangered Species?

See anything odd about the building in this photo? During the World Cup Rugby, an ardent supporter of the South African team put the team's emblem on the roof! The springbok has been the emblem of South African Rugby as far back as I can remember (Ok Ok, I have the memory of a gnat, but still!) it seems the powers that be have decided this must change, and moves are afoot to change the emblem of the rugby team.....…
