Sardinia Bay Golf Course

Port Elizabeth has a number of golf courses around the city. The best known one is the Humewood Golf Course, a links course which is seen as one of the best courses in the country. One of the lesser known ones are the 9 hole Sardinia Bay golf course. I'm not much of a golfer (not enough time), so I haven't played the big courses, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing Sardinia Bay the other morning with my Boet.

Fishermen or Anglers?

What are the difference between fishermen and anglers? In my book, fishermen are the guys who actually catch fish and anglers are those who ... well, get home and tell you about the big one that got away. Here my Boet (sitting) and his buddy Phil is fishing angling on the banks of the Gamtoos River. The previous day they went out with the boat for about 3 hours and got nothing. On this morning they got about 6 tiny…

Kragga Kamma Golf Course

I don't get much chance to play golf. Perhaps twice a year, which means I'm anything but a skilled golf player. I normally play a (half) round with my brother when I get a chance and then just share his clubs as well. What makes my game worse is that although I'm right handed, I hold a cricket bat left handed. This means that I play with right handed clubs and a left handed grip which makes my swing look…

Eastern Province Rugby Stadium

The Eastern Province Rugby Stadium is also better know by its old name of Boet Erasmus Stadium. The stadium is home to the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) and the provincial team is know as The Mighty Elephants and seats about 35000 people. In the picture you can see the main stand while the open stand only consist of cement steps and doesn't have and seats. Its far from a modern stadium, but there is a reason (except for the…

Going for posts

The once mighty Eastern Province rugby side have been bottom feeders in provincial rugby for the last decade or so and has been struggling both on and off the field. This season has seen a bit of a revival in the boardroom which is slowly starting to spill onto the field. EP is currently lying 4th on the table in the Currie Cup "B" section. They played the 3rd placed South Western District Eagles on the Eastern Province Rugby Stadium…

Eastern Province Tumbling and Trampoline Trials

Bianca Budler flying through the air during her tumbling routine Yesterday we went to the Eastern Province Tumbling and Trampoline Trials in the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre. Chaos Boy took part in two items and got a gold and silver (see here). Tumbling and Trampoline in the Eastern Cape is of a very high standard and this becomes very clear when you realise that nine of the twenty gymnasts chosen to go to the Gymnastics World Age Group Games in…

Golf – or at least trying

I mentioned the other day that I went to play a round of golf with my brother the other day and found some excellent specimens of bracket fungus. Somebody (I think it was Marcelle, but now I can't find where the comment was made) asked if I go to play golf with my camera around my neck. The answer is now. I carry it on my back in my backpack. *wink* I never leave my camera at home. You never…

Primary Schools Rugby

On Saturday we stopped at Walmer West Primary School just down the road from us to watch a bit of primary schools rugby. They were having a sports day and various schools were playing both rugby and netball against each other. As we got there the under 13 teams of Walmer West Primary in the blue and Excelsior Primary on the orange and green took to the field. The boys in the Walmer West team was a lot bigger than…

Action Cricket

Action Cricket is a very popular past time and played by both men and women. In Port Elizabeth there are four leagues (seasons) a year and about 80 teams taking part in each competition. I started playing about a year ago and is currently playing for the Night Crawlers in one of the lower leagues. We are very much a social team and not that good, so its as much about the fun than it is about the competition. Plus…
