The roof trusses for the new soccer stadium being assembled on site. They will be lifted into place with the huge crane featured in yesterday's post.

Roll on 2010

A visit to the site of the new 2010 Soccer World Cup stadium shows that great progress is being made to get it completed before the event. The giant crane to the left will be used to lift the massive roof trusses in place.I am sure that many a good soccer game will be played here.

You light up my life

If you have hung around this blog for any time now, you will have realised that I have a bit of a fascination for capturing the moon with all sorts of unlikely objects in the foreground. We also intermittently do a series on lamp posts around town. I guess this falls into both categories, the light in question is one of the large stadium lights used to illuminate the Westborne Oval (athletics and cycling track) for night events.

No wonder Port Elizabeth is gaining a great reputation as a watersport capital. We recently showed you the swimming phase of the Ironman contest. This weekend PE was host to another major event. Shark Rock Pier #5

It's been a while since we posted a pic in the Shark Rock Pier Series, but we are about to make up for it.........this weekend she was all dressed up and ready for the big event.... Ironman SA started on Hobie Beach, and the pier was crammed with spectators. (You can see a whole lot moreironman images here and also there is an overflow post of pier photos here.)

Jimminy Cricket!!!

Cricket has certainly moved with the times. For those who find 5 days of stiff-upper-lip play with white clothing and a sedate pace a bit heavy going, there are now new formats which make the game much more exciting. The newest of these is the 20-20 match, which is fast paced, 4s and 6s fly, the music is loud and trendy, gogo dancers and flame throwers go ballistic everytime something exciting happens, the crowds really get involved and the atmosphere…
