Hobie Beach

I know its winter and a bit cold outside and this is a summer picture, but I feel like going to the beach for some reason. Hobie Beach is one of Port Elizabeth's main beaches. It can be found across the road from the Boardwalk Casino complex and is where Shark Rock Pier is situated. The beach is one of Port Elizabeth's 4 Blue Flag Beaches and is a favorite with both young and old.

Wilderness

I have always said that if my boat had to come in I would one day retire in Wilderness on the Garden Route. Somewhere against the hillside from where I can see the ocean, mountains, lakes and beaches of this beautiful area. Wilderness is a nice central base from where visitors can explore the Southern Cape and Garden Route and if one needs to get away from the hustle bustle of life there are forests, lakes and rivers all within…

Tsitsikamma National Park

The Tsitsikamma National Park is definitively one of my absolute favorite places on the Garden Route. It is a awesome park with such contrast and natural beauty, its hard to find anything better anywhere else. Forests, towering cliffs, black rock coastline, white waves, blue ocean, streams, beaches... I can go on and on. The park is a very popular stop for tourists travelling the Garden Route. I have done several posts on it on my other blog. These can be…

The boy in the red shirt

On our recent trip to Cape St Francis, Chaos Boy decided to tag along on my outing to find the wreck indicated on the information sheet at the resort we were staying at. While I was taking pictures all over the show, he was exploring away on his own. I liked how his red shirt stood out against the greenery. He found a lot of "sea sound shells" as he calls any shell he can keep up to his ear to…

Cape Recife

This pic was taken on the beach at Cape Recife on the Algoa Bay side looking south at the Cape Recife lighthouse (right) and one of the shipping beacons (left). I specially liked the cloud formation in the background.

The water’s edge

When I did the first "Random ..." post on "Roundness", it was because I couldn't find anything else that tickled my fancy for a post that night. The second one on "Rust" was out of wanting to post one specific photo and finding a couple of others which linked to the theme. Now I've realised that there are endless possibilities out there for themed posts that isn't connected to one place. Oh wait, that was actually Karin who said so…

Windy beach

There was a lot of windy weather along our coast between Christmas and New Year. Luckily the holiday resort where we were camping was very sheltered and we weren't effected that much. But when we headed down to the beach we knew that mother nature was blowing off some steam. The one day the wind was extremely bad. It was blowing so much sea air onto the land in the distance that it actually looked like there was fog coming…

Washed up

In Saturday's post I featured what I called beach treasures. These are things that you find on the beach that were either lost there, washed up by the ocean or got there in some natural or unnatural way. Today's post kinda flows out of that idea. The only thing is that today it features a mammal, a sea creature and a bird. And no, there is no punchline to it. Far from it.On our first visit to the shipwreck at…
