Beach walkway

I popped down to the beachfront the other day and drove along the paved path (also known as Lovers Lane) in front of the Marine Hotel. I stopped at one of the walkways to the beach and got this shot back towards Hobie Beach.

Flat Rocks

The area between Pollock Beach and Cape Receive is generally known as Flat Rocks. The name refers to the rocks stretching out to sea at low tide. The rocks are easily accessible and is very popular fishing site. Some of the older Port Elizabeth followers will remember the old Flat Rocks Roadhouse which was situated overlooking the sea across the road from the Humewood Golf Club entrance. The roadhouse of cause is no more. I remember the roadhouse, but I…

Lifeguard setting up

Last Friday Drama Princess' creche had a morning outing to Hobie Beach, one of the three Blue Flag beaches in Port Elizabeth, which I accompanied. We were down at the beach at 8:45 in the morning. Sitting next to Shark Rock Pier waiting for everybody else to arrive, I was watching a lifeguard unpacking and setting up for his shift..GPS: 33°58'50.90"S, 25°39'33.03"E

Seaweed

Going for a walk along the beach at Cape Recife the other day, we found this big patch of seaweed washed up on the beach. A lot of seaweed like this gets loosened from the sea floor during storms and after a strong easterly wind gets washed up on the beach.

The lighthouse can be seen in the centre of the picture while the tower on the right is one of the shipping beacons.

Penguin Plod

SAMREC is the newly opened South African Marine Rehabilitation Centre which I did a post about a week or so ago on The Firefly Photo Files. The Penguin Plod is a fun run / walk which SAMREC hopes will become an annual event and acts as a fundraiser for the centre. Judging at the response they had as well as the uniqueness of the fun walk, it…

Maitlands sand dune

Yesterday I showed you the view from the road down onto Maitlands beach, so today I want to show you what it looks like looking up towards the dune from the beach. I have zoomed in a bit, but you can still get an idea of how high the dune is. It is a very popular spot to go sand boarding with anything from proper sand boards to boogy boards and pieces of plywood. Tomorrow I will post the view…

Maitlands beach

We have had the most awesome weekend weather wise over this past long weekend. Any alien landing around here on any of the three days would have mistaken it to be a place in the mids of summer. On Saturday I took Chaos Boy to Seaview Game and Lion Park followed by Maitlands beach and we had such a super time in the outdoors. This is Maitlands beach with the Maitlands River mouth as seen from the hill approaching from…
