Snorkeling with an otter at Schoenies

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CZRcQfR3DA&w=500&h=400]After seeing all the reaction on the video about snorkeling around the Humewood slipway I shared two weeks ago I went looking for another snorkeling video to share with you.  I came across this amazing video by Brad Taylor.  Brad went snorkeling at Schoenies with his brother and dad and they were joined by this very curious otter.  Wow, what an experience that must have been.

Skateboarding around Port Elizabeth

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwzYy__-MDU&w=500&h=400]I'm not a skateboarder.  Fell way too hard off my skateboard trying it out as a kid.  Drama Princess loves to Jboard though.  But that's beyond the point.  Anyhow, I was looking for a video to post for this week's Video Friday post and found this one on the King's Beach Skateboarding YouTube channel.  Although it's one of their older videos it shows the guys leaving the skate-park behind and hitting the streets a bit, showing off some of Port Elizabeth's…

SS Mendi disaster remembered during Armed Forces Day

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gam0-9b1w-c&w=500&h=400]Armed Forces Day took place on 21 February in Port Elizabeth.  The date isn't just one chosen out the air but rather was selected to commemorate the sinking of the SS Mendi.SS Mendi was a British 4,222 GRT passenger steamship that was built in 1905 . In 1916 during the First World War the UK Admiralty chartered her as a troopship.  On 21 February 1917, a large cargo steamship, Darro, collided with her in the English Channel south of the Isle of Wight.  Mendi sank killing 646 people, most of whom were black South African troops. The sinking was a major loss…

Explore Nelson Mandela Bay

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjSUxRPPe7U&w=500&h=400]This destination marketing video was produced in 2009 by Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism for the Chinese market and it combined both information about Port Elizabeth, the greater Nelson Mandela Bay and the rest of the Eastern Cape.  Watching this just reminds one again what a beautiful area we live in.

3 minutes by train from Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OIy08BSKNo&w=500&h=400]When last have you been on a train?  It's something most of us don't get to do and I really think it's leaving  gap in our lives.  And to think it's something our parents probably did quite often when they were young.  Alan Straton of MyPE took the train from Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth and condensed the 45 minute trip in 3 minutes.  I loved it when I saw it and just had to share.

Paddling on the PE beachfront

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsGP32pagw8&w=500&h=400]Port Elizabeth offers so many water sport and activity opportunities.  We really are super fortunate to live on Algoa Bay with everything it offers.  Check out this YouTube video of MyLifeInTransit and his dad going paddling along the Port Elizabeth beachfront.  Along the way they came across a pod of dolphins which can only be described as a magical experience.

Cape St Francis fires in video

For just about the last week the residents of Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay along with numerous fire fighters, helicopter pilots, volunteers and more have been fighting a huge fire that threatened their homes, properties, lives and livelihoods.  This wasn't just another little bush fire but one that seriously could be referred to as a monster.  There are a lot of videos and photos out there on Facebook showing how the fire has been fought on all sides.…

Bluewater Bay beach aerial

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmU6Ez3Wyq8&w=500&h=400]I was looking for a video for this week's Video Friday post and found this aerial drone footage of Bluewater Bay beach by Christopher Moodley of Epic Moovies on YouTube.  Bluewater Bay is probably Port Elizabeth's most underrated beach and this video shows how beautiful a stretch of white beach it is.UPDATE: My sincerest apologies.  He seemed to have removed all the videos from his YouTube channel.
