Sokkerstad

Drama Princess is an Ironkid

On Saturday Drama Princess participated in her first Ironkids South Africa and we are so proud of her for doing it.  She has been parading her medal for everybody to see for two days now, even showing it off in church on Sunday and going to the headmaster's (who has participated in Ironman himself) office at school and show him.The organisation around Ironkids was amazing and everything planned to a tee.  Ironkids start with a 60 meter swim at McArthur Pool and the kids are…

Ironman run

This past weekend was Ironman South Africa weekend in Port Elizabeth and what an incredible event it was again.  It truly is one of Port Elizabeth's flagship events.  It started on Friday afternoon with the Irongirl ladies 10 km run.  Saturday morning kicked off with the Corporate Ironman where teams of three (or individuals) do a 1/10th of the full Ironman distance.  This was followed by the hugely popular Ironkids consisting of a 60m swim and 1,2km run for kids aged…

Supporting the Warriors

I received tickets to go and watch the Warriors, our local cricket franchise, play the Knights in a Pro20 game on Friday night.  I've only taken the family along to a cricket match once before a couple of years ago and decided to do so again.  We sat on the grass banks below the Duckpond Pavilion and Chaos Boy pulled his chair right up to the barriers flying his Warriors flag.

Track bell

This time of the year all the schools are doing their inter-school athletics and Chaos Boy's school was no different.  After sitting through a long boring day on the stands last year, I volunteered to help with time keeping this year to get the time to pass faster.  I had a very enjoyable day, but I totally forgot to take the one photo I planned for the day.  I wanted the same pic as above, but just as the long…

South African Junior Chess Championships

For the last week some of the brightest young minds in the country have been taking part in the annual South Africa Junior Chess Championships, this year hosted at the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University right here in Port Elizabeth.  I popped down to the Indoor Sports Centre to have a peek and nearly fell on my back when I saw the amount of participants.  More than 2000 kids from all over South Africa are taking part in this event…

Celebrations

Celebrations as the All Blacks receive the trophee as winners of the South African leg of the IRB 7's World Series in Port Elizabeth.Another reason to celebrate is the fact that today is Port Elizabeth Daily Photo's 1500th post and thus my 1000th post since taking over the blog from Max and Sue.  This comes shortly after I recently did post number 1000 on The Firefly Photo Files as well.  Thank you to all the loyal followers of PEDP for your regular visits as well…

Running out for the final

The Blitzbokke (South Africa) and the All Blacks (New Zealand) takes the field for the start of the final of the South African leg of the IRB 7's World Series in Port Elizabeth.  The crowd went mad every time the Boks touched the ball and I think most people were on their feet for just about the whole game.  Unfortunately for us the All Blacks got the ball seconds before the end of the game and went over for the…

IRB 7’s action

On Friday and Saturday (9 and 10 December 2011) the South African leg of the IRB 7's World Series took place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for the first time.  Getting the 7's to the city was a big scoop and the action on and off the field didn't disappoint.  The event truly lived up to it's billing as "Rugby's Biggest Party".  Below are a couple of snaps I took from both next to the field as well as…

Equestrian champs

The South African Junior Equestrian Championships have been taking place at the Port Elizabeth Riding Club over the last week or so.  I've seen the sport on television, but it was the first time that I actually sat next to the ring (see how little I know of it, cause I'm sure the arena isn't called a ring) and saw the horses jump in real life.
