Fishermen or Anglers?

What are the difference between fishermen and anglers? In my book, fishermen are the guys who actually catch fish and anglers are those who … well, get home and tell you about the big one that got away. Here my Boet (sitting) and his buddy Phil is fishing angling on the banks of the Gamtoos River. The previous day they went out with the boat for about 3 hours and got nothing. On this morning they got about 6 tiny little things which they had to throw back. Needless to say, we braai’d lamp chops for supper.
By the way. Happy birthday to my Boet for today. From today he’s off the calender. If you don’t know what that means, the highest number you can find on a calender is 31 and he’s not there anymore.

No nothing about fishing so won't make a comment!!!!Happy birthday to your Boet! Gosh – I've been off the calendar for many years now .. so where did I go? Is there a place where 'off-the-calendar-people' go?

And here I've always called the whole thing fishing, whether or not anything is caught. Thanks for setting me straight!

  5. Tell boet I say Happy birthday too. I have often wondered about that difference too and think you explination is quite accurate. 🙂

I have never heard the “off the calander” saying before. Probably just as well as I have been “off calander” for a few years now….
