Finding the Geocache on Bird Rock

At the beginning of the year I took a swim out to Bird Rock on the beachfront with fellow Geocachers Erenei and Seekoei NMB with the idea of possibly placing a Geocache on the rock.  Cachers like challenges and this would be a great challenge.  Since placing it a couple of cachers have found it but after a rough winter I thought it was time to check up on it and do some maintenance if necessary.  I was joined on…

Beachfront boardwalk

Long before the The Boardwalk complex with the hotel, casino and entertainment center was build there used to be a Boardwalk.  The center where Barneys, Blue Waters Café and what used to be called The Red Windmill (sorry, I have no idea what they are called now) are located is also called the Boardwalk.  The reason?  Its located along Port Elizabeth's beautiful beachfront walkway.

Surfing with dolphines

Driving back to the office from a meeting at the university I decided to stop at Pipe to see if there were any surfers out there.  There weren't that many but those who were out catching a wave was joined by a couple dolphins swimming past.  I bet a rookie surfer's heart would skip a beat if he had to spot a dolphin's fin behind a wave for the first time.

Radisson view

The view of the Port Elizabeth beachfront from the top floor of the Radisson Blu Hotel is breathtaking.  Don't think I need to say anymore.

Furry friends welcome

Port Elizabeth's beachfront is popular with everybody. Joggers, walkers, surfers, families, cyclists, skateboarders, people walking their furry four legged friends, visitors and locals alike.  All of these were delighted to see the redevelopment of Something Good and all of these are welcome there.  Yes, even the furry friends.

Pollok Beach

Pollok Beach on a sunny day but with winter approaching there'll be less people in the water and more just walking on the beach.  Over the last month or so we have had some beautiful "pre-winter" days.  If only our weather was like that all year long.  Just imagine what an even more awesome destination Port Elizabeth would be.

Pipe

Pipe, next to Pollok Beach, is probably the most popular surf spot in Port Elizabeth.  It wasn't named because the there is a barrel that you can ride like a pipe (because there isn't), but because of a storm water pipe that runs into the sea right in front of the break.  Pipe is probably PE's most consistent surf spot and you can be sure to always find a couple of okes out there on any given day.

Leaping (no swimming yet)

Chaos Boy leaping off the rocks in front of the Pollok Beach parking area.  Its not quite swimming weather yet but hopefully in a month or so we'll be able to take the Kidz back there for a swim in the rock pool.
