Van Stadens Wild Flower Reserve

The Van Stadens Wild Flower Reserve is situated about 40 kilometers west of Port Elizabeth.  The reserve is 450 hectares in size and includes both pristine fynbos along the plateau and coastal forest in the gorge.  There are several hiking trails through the reserve and one of them will take you to the spot from where the Van Stadens Bridge is visible.  One of the magnificent flowers that grow in the reserve is the King Protea, South Africa's national flower.

St Georges Park

St Georges Park has a number of paths and walkways through it which gives one the opportunity to feel like you have gotten away from the city. Unfortunately the people of Port Elizabeth isn't really utilising the park as much as they should be, which means that when you do go there you have to be very cautious of possible unsavory elements trying their luck. I always wonder why people working in the area doesn't go there during their tea…

Vic Park

When I seriously need to get out the office and don't really have anywhere spicific I want to go, I pop up the street and take a walk in Victoria Park. Vic Park, named after Queen Victoria, is in lower Walmer and probably is one of Port Elizabeth's lesser know big parks.

Victoria Park palm tree

The weather has been stunning over the last couple of weeks and its always such a shame to be stuck in the office on days like this. The other day I popped out for a walk in Victoria Park and it was really a great way to clear the head after a tough morning. In the pic is one of the parks big palm trees with the band stand gazebo in the background.

Art in the Park

In August last year I did a post on Art in the Park that takes place in St Georges Park every first Sunday of the month. Gavin Tonks, the founder of Art in the Park, commented on the post and gave some information on how it started. Seeing that this weekend has the first Sunday of the month and that Art in the Park will be taking place, I thought I would post Gavin's comment.Gavin Tonks said ..."I actually started…

Wagon Jungle Gym

*mumble mumble* years ago when I was still in primary school, my mom used to have a stall at Art in the Park at St Georges Park every first Sunday of the month. I remember us playing all over the park, exploring the gardens, running down the paths and climbing on the jungle gyms. The ox wagon play structure has been there forever. When we went to Art in the Park the other day I was glad to see that…

Strolling in Settlers Park

Taking a stroll along one of the paths in Settlers Park. In many ways Baakens River Valley and Settlers Park is the green lung of Port Elizabeth and is just so underutilized by the inhabitants of the city. It is a great place to get near nature and just away from the city's hustle and bustle.
