The Boardwalk Hotel seen from the pier

I mentioned the other day that I have finally started to Instagram now that I have replaced my Blackberry with a Samsung.  The day the phone was delivered to me I couldn't wait to take my first photo with it to post on Instagram.  I decided to take a walk across the road from the office and snap a picture of Hobie Beach and the Boardwalk Hotel from Shark Rock Pier.

Shark Rock Pier and Hobie Beach on a winters morning

After a nice cold snap a week or two ago, we've had some beautiful weather this week.  Walking across the road from my office to a meeting at Blue Waters Café I couldn't help but to snap Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach on my new phone and Instagram it.  By the way, have I mentioned that I'm on Instagram now? No? Well if you are on Instagram, please look me up under FireflyAfrica and follow my photos there as…

Red sky at night, sailors delight

The sunset on Friday evening was a stunning one.  Not a cloud in the sky and a beautiful orange glow along the horizon.  As I was heading home I still thought how I still wished I had a good vantage point to get a nice beachfront sunset picture.  But as I just got back from East London I wanted to get home and back to the family.  About an hour later I had a look at Facebook and Millers Local, who lives on…

Enjoying the view

The best part of any walk or hike is enjoying the scenic views, like Cathy was doing here on the Flamingo Trail at Swartkops a little while ago.

An Incidental Tourist at Shark Rock Pier

Last week two fellow travel bloggers, Dawn Jorgensen (The Incidental Tourist) and Di Brown (The Roaming Giraffe) came on a four night Sho't Left trip to the Eastern Cape which I was very privileged to play some part in.  Unfortunately I was busy over the weekend otherwise I would have joined them on the trip.  I did get to meet the two of them and show them around a little bot of Port Elizabeth though.  Here Dawn is getting a…

Bird Rock on the PE beachfront

Geocaching is fun with most caches hidden somewhere fairly easily eccessible.  For a while now I've been eyeing Bird Rock on the beachfront thinking it could be a great site for an "extreme" terrain 5 cache and the other day I took a swim out there with fellow cachers Seekoei and erenei to place one with only three cachers swimming out there since to log it.  Bird Rock is situated between Hobie Beach and Pollok Beach and is always surrounded…

Shark Rock Pier on a blue sky day

Since being constructed in the late 1990's, Shark Rock Pier has become one of Port Elizabeth's best known landmarks.  With Hobie Beach next to it and the Boardwalk complex across the road, most visitors to Port Elizabeth inevitably end up going for a walk on the pier enjoying the views of Algoa Bay and the surrounding beachfront.

Hobie Beach and Boardwalk panorama

I took this panorama of Hobie Beach with the Boardwalk Hotel and Conference Centre in the background from the Jester the other day.  Cruising on the Jester does give one a whole new angle to look at the Port Elizabeth beachfront from and you just realise again how beautiful our beachfront is.
