Beachfront sunrise

The best part about winter is that you don't have to get up as early as in summer to get a decent sunrise picture. Only problem is that even though its later, its cold and dark when you get up. This is sunrise at Hobie Beach taken about a week or so ago.Visit Skywatch for more pictures featuring the sky

Ironman starting point

Probably the best spot to see the start of Ironman from is on Shark Rock Pier. This year I decided to be on the beach to get some close-up shots of the competitors starting their swim, but next year I definitively would like to get the start from up here. I decided to take a walk onto the pier to get a shot anyway. At this stage most of the swimmers were on their second lap of the coarse while…

Hobie Beach at low tide

This pic may just look familiar. Yes, just look above at the image at the title of the blog. I realised that I have never posted this pic in its entirety, so here it is. It was taken at low tide a little futher down Hobie Beach and looking back Shark Rock Pier.

Lifeguard setting up

Last Friday Drama Princess' creche had a morning outing to Hobie Beach, one of the three Blue Flag beaches in Port Elizabeth, which I accompanied. We were down at the beach at 8:45 in the morning. Sitting next to Shark Rock Pier waiting for everybody else to arrive, I was watching a lifeguard unpacking and setting up for his shift..GPS: 33°58'50.90"S, 25°39'33.03"E

FIFA Host City Profiles film crew

As mentioned before, I spent a couple of days with a film crew shooting the footage for the host city profiles for FIFA. The footage will be shown before the matches are played during the FIFA 2010 World Cup here in South Africa. This means that the footage shot here in Port Elizabeth gets aired just before the games that is played in PE. We are fortunate that there are eight games here, so lets hope it involves some high…

Watersport

Port Elizabeth is often tagged as the water sport capital of Africa due to the wide variety of water sports that can be participated in in the Bay. Algoa Bay offers perfect sailing conditions all year around while paddling, scuba diving, surfing, kite surfing, and many other water sports are also popular. Here in one photo there are four different water based sports being participated in. On the left there are scuba divers getting ready to go out, in the…

Taking the dog for a stroll

Another picture from our trip down to the beach on Sunday. A couple (not sure if it an actual couple or father and daughter, but that doesn't matter) taking their dog for a walk with Shark Rock Pier and a part of Central in the background. It was an unusual angle as you don't often see the pier with town looking so close in the background.

Deserted beach

With autumn settled in and winter sneaking in through the back door, it also means that temperatures are dropping and beaches are becoming deserted. I took this pic down at Hobie Beach a week or so ago on a Sunday morning. Although there were quite a few people taking walks and cycling along the beachfront promenade, the beach was visibly empty.
