Port Elizabeth is fortunate to have a lot of very nice spots to go for a drink or cocktail after work or a relaxing Sunday afternoon. One of these is the Verandah at the Beach Hotel with its stunning view of Hobie Beach and Shark Rock Pier across the road. I haven't been here for a while until I rediscovered it the other day while having drinks with colleagues after a hard couple of days.
Rhino poaching is a serious issue in South Africa and the more awareness that is created the better. Playing his part in this is the sand sculptor at Hobie Beach. Passing by the other morning I spotted his sand rhino and had to snap a picture.

The Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre has really changed the beachfront skyline since it opened a year ago. I've heard that some people think it looks out of place while comparing it to a Disney like castle while others absolutely love it. Standing next to Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach, this is the view towards Kings Beach and the harbour. We've had rain for the last couple of days but the sun's been sticking its head out from behind the clouds a little bit today. After all the rain we had last year, this year has been pretty dry so the rain is very welcome.
Its another beautiful sunshine winters day in Port Elizabeth and to celebrate that and the coming long weekend, here is Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach with the early morning sunshine reflecting off the ocean.
Winter has set in and the mornings and evenings are nice and cold, but we're lucky here in Port Elizabeth in that we have a very Mediterranean climate which makes our days quite mild. That is when there isn't a coldfront passing over. Winters means that the beaches are empty but people are still using the beachfront to walk, jog or just enjoy the outdoors.
Today was a marvellous day in the Bay just proofing once again that this is the best time of the year where weather in Port Elizabeth is concerned.
Its officially autumn (or has been for the last 11 days), but may the summer weather remain for quite a bit longer. Here's hoping, I'm not quite ready for winter yet.
