Noetzie – Kastele op die strand

So 'n paar kilometer buite die Tuinroete dorp Knysna, aan die einde van 'n grondpad, is 'n baie unieke plek met die naam Noetzie.   Noetzie (Khoi-San vir Donker Water) het 'n pragtige strand en strandmeer omring deur inheemse woude, maar wat Noetzie laat uitstaan is die feit dat daar verskeie kastele langs die strand is.  Die area is reg van Knysna se begin jare af 'n plekkie waar die plaaslike inwoners oor naweke gaan kamp het.  Die eerste kasteel is in 1932 uit plaaslike klip as 'n…

Tsitsikamma Village Inn

If somebody had to ask me right now what my absolute favorite hotels are the first one on my list would be the three star Tsitsikamma Village Inn in Storms River Village.  "Why?" Slow shutter waterfall

I don't often play around with the settings on my camera, but I couldn't help slowing down the shutter speed just a little bit for this pic of one of the streams flowing through the Tsitsikamma forest.

Lilies and cottages

Lilies growing along Oak Lane in Storms River Village in the Tsitsikamma with some of the old forestry houses (now under the control of SA National Parks) in the background.  Beyond the houses is the Tsitsikamma forest and in particular the Plaatbos section.

Fygies between the rocks

Vygies is a type of succulent and most of them are in full flower at the moment.  I found this little clump between the rocks in the Tsitsikamma National Park at the Storms River Rest camp.

Biiiiiiig lilies

We spend a couple of days in the Tsitsikamma this week chilling out and exploring the area.  The lilies in the forest are in full bloom and truly stunning, some as big as two hands cupped together.  I have a lot more Storms River and Tsitsikamma (one of the most beautiful areas in South Africa) stuff that will follow.

Knysnakoppe

Die Knysnakoppe by Knysna in die Weskaap is een van Suid Afrika se bekendste natuurlike landmerke en word gereeld in reistydskrifte en brosjures gesien.  Die Koppe is ook een van die gevaarlikste ingange tot 'n natuurlike hawe in die wêreld met menige bote wat al hier deur die branders omgeslaan is of op die rotse geloop het.

Bloukransbrug Bungee

Teen 216 meter hoog is die Bloukransrivierbrug op die grens tussen die Ooskaap en Weskaap die hoogste brug in Afrika.  Die brug is een van vyf enkelboogbetonbrûe op die N2 tussen Port Elizabeth en Plettenbergbaai en is 415meter lank.  Maar dis nie regtig hoekom ons hier is nie, is dit?Die eintlike rede hoekom die Bloukransrivierbrug bekendheid verwerf het is die feit dat dit ook is waar die hoogste brugrekspronge (bungee) in die wêreld plaasvind.  Alhoewel honderde adrenalienverslaafdes elke jaar van die brug afspring…

Dias Museum

Daai dag in 1488 toe Bartolomeu Dias in 'n storm om die Kaap gevaar and kort daarna in wat vandag Mosselbaai is geland het, sou hy seker nooit kon raai dat op daardie selfde plek vandag 'n museum sou staan wat sy naam dra nie.  Die Dias Museum kompleks het 'n fantastiese verskeindenheid van attraksies en sluit 'n skulpiesmuseum, die Munrohoekhuisies, die oorspronklike varswaterfontein waar Dias se matrose water geskep het om aan boort te neem en die Poskantoorboom in.  Die Poskantoorboom is 'n…
