Grand White Dinner in St Georges Park

The Grand White Dinner has taken place in London, Paris, Berlin, Cape Town and now Port Elizabeth.  On Saturday afternoon I got to attend the first Grand White Dinner taking place in the Friendly City with compliments of the organisers of the event.  I wasn't sure what to expect but was blown away from the moment we walked through the gate.  Everything was laid out perfectly with somebody on hand right from the start to show guests where to go. Holmeleigh Farm Christmas Party

Yesterday (Monday 16 December) the annual Holmeleigh Farmyard Christmas Party for underprivileged kids hosted by Holmeleigh Farm and Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and supported by Bay FM 107.9, Ocean Rock Entertainment and musician Wayne Kallis (with many more contributions) took place.  And what a party it was.  About 230 kids from 8 different schools, homes and charity organisations arrived to a full on party with everything you can expect from such. Arrival of the Blitzbokke

This weekend (the whole week actually) is a big weekend in the Bay.  Its the weekend when the South African leg of the International Rugby Boards 7's world series takes place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.  Its two days of action packed rugby on the field and lots of party action off it.  All 16 teams taking part came in on two flights last night and I was lucky enough to make the special list to get me past the supporters and into the arrivals area.  I…

Patensie Plaasbasaar – the epitome of church bazaars

A CITO event for International Geocaching Day

Last Saturday (17 August 2013) I joined a number of fellow geocachers in celebrating International Geocaching Day with a CITO event in the Baakens Valley at the back of Beverley Grove.  CITO stands for "Cache In Trash Out" and is a clean-up organised by geocachers at a spot where a cache is hidden that is in need of a spring clean.  This specific location is home to a cache called Ancient Roman Tablets and for some reason has a huge litter problem.  Cachers…

Cleaning Lovemore Lake for Mandela Day

Yesterday was Tata Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday.  Five years ago the Nelson Mandela Foundation decided to declare his birthday Mandela Day and asked people to give 67 minutes of their time to help those less fortunate than them.  The 67 minutes represent the 67 years that Mandela spent in his pursuit of freedom for all in South Africa.  Some people spent their 67 minutes helping people while others assisted with animals and in my case, a natural spot.  A little while ago photographer Luc Hosten, who runs…

The Wine Show 2013

Citrus Festival photos gallery

The annual Patensie Citrus Festival took place on 15 June 2013 in the Gamtoos Valley west of Port Elizabeth.  The Gamtoos is mainly a farming area with beautiful scenery, not forgetting true farming hospitality, so I take any excuse I can get to visit.  After really enjoying the 2012 festival we decided to head out there again this year and bundled the family in the car on the Saturday morning, headed out to the countryside.  Here are a some scenes from the festival.

The Muck Run

 This morning 500 muckers and about 50 muckchkins (little muckers) mucked around the mucky dams and mucken bush at Bushpig Adventures out in Theesecombe during the first (of what will become an annual) Muck Run in Port Elizabeth.  The Muck Run is organised by Zports and consisted of a 8km trail run taking in muddy ponds and dams, crawling through mud and dust under cargo nets, climbing through tunnels, running over tyres and poles and sliding down a 50m slippery slide.  It was the toughest…
