Merry Christmas

I would like to wish all Port Elizabeth Daily Photo's Christian followers a Merry Christmas.  Hope the day is a blessed one with lots of family, friends, food and gifts.  Peace! Yes yes, I know.  Why white Christmas trees when we are in Africa?  I thought about it and you know why? Because we can. Hahahaha.... The picture was taken at the Christmas Shop at Moffat-on-Main.  Have a wonderful day everybody!

The Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens

This weekend is a huge sporting weekend in Port Elizabeth.  The Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens is taking place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.  The NMB 7's is part of the International Sevens World Series and the only leg taking place in Africa.  I took the KidZ for day 1 yesterday and we had an awesome time.  The weather was superb.  The turnout was good (better than last year). The vibe was great and people were having a ball.  Today is day 2…

The 2014 Gamtoos Tourism Adventure Drive – undignified fun

On Saturday we headed into the Gamtoos Valley for the annual Gamtoos Tourism Adventure Drive.  This year the event took place around the towns of Loerie and Hankey and it was a heck of a lot of fun, to say the least.  The Adventure Drive takes the form of a 60km round trip which gets completed by following directions given at the start of the race.  Along the way there are 9 stops with challenges that need to be completed. …

I am an African

Under the Settlers Freeway on the flyover pillars between the Campanile and the bus station there are a series of 10 art pieces that form part of Route 67.  The paintings, called "Identities" by Lubhi Mtathi, is a series of colourful and evocative portraits that depict young South Africans from a range of cultural backgrounds.  Its all about cultural stereotypes and misconceptions.  This is one that I strongly relate to.  I am a South African and an African.  I was born here…

Urban Run 2014

https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/W8fSATToZJY&source=udsLast Sunday it was time for runners to tackle the city in the annual Urban Run again.  After participating the last two years I missed this one but will definitively be back next year.  Check out this video by the organisers and see for yourself how much fun this event really is.

PE<<

This year the second installment of the PE to Plett four day mountain bike team event between Port Elizabeth and Plettenberg Bay took place in reverse and ended at the Boardwalk on the PE beachfront.  The first team arrived at the Boardwalk at about 9:45ish with the last teams struggling in somewhere between 1 and 2pm.  Red Cherry Adventures does an fantastic job organizing this event and I'm sure it will soon start to rival the Cape Epic as one of the top…

Dirty clean fun at The Color Run

Last year the first ever Color Run in South Africa took place in Port Elizabeth, so it was appropriate for the city to stage the first South African one in 2014 again.  I got an invite from Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism to come and participate in the event along with the family and on a slightly cold and wet Sunday morning headed down to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.  I wasn't sure how a powder paint event would go down…

Color Run in Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabethans came out in their thousands today to take part in the happiest 5k run on the planet.  The Color Run came to Port Elizabeth for a second time (the first in 2013 was actually the first in South Africa) and the locals were hell bent to have fun come rain or shine... well mostly rain.  BUT and I have to say but, they didn't allow the rain to spoil their day.  In actual fact it only helped to make everybody even…

Food and wine paring presented by Shefetswe

So they say that wine is the "Nectar of the Gods".  Personally I prefer fruit juice or a Crème Soda, but I'm not totally anti wine.  I just never learned to drink it and even though I won't touch a red I wouldn't say no to a nice sweet Rose or late harvest.  Even in saying all that I really enjoy wine tastings - see, trying to teach myself to appreciate wine as one probably should.  A week or two ago…

Ironman weekend

Ironman is probably the biggest event staged in Port Elizabeth and right up there to what the Argus cycle race is to Cape Town and the Comrades Marathon to Durban.  But Ironman isn't just one day of ordinary sports men and women doing extra ordinary things, its a whole weekend of awesomeness and this past weekend was Ironman weekend.  It all starts in the week before the event with the arrival of athletes and there families, the Ironman expo and…
