Opening of Visitor Information Centers

The Minister of Tourism, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, visited Port Elizabeth today to launch Nelson Mandela Bay's 2010 Visitor Information Centres (VICs). The three world class visitor and tourism centres will form part of the legacy project for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The VIC's are being rolled out in five host cities, namely Port Elizabeth, Polokwane, Nelspruit, Rustenburg and Bloemfontein. I got back from Indaba 2009 yesterday afternoon totally exhausted. Unfortunately it was a hectic 6 days in Durban, so I didn't get to take many photo. Spar Ladies Race

This morning the Spar Ladies Race took place on the beachfront. It consist of 5km and 10km races. The Port Elizabeth leg of the race is one of the biggest in the country with nearly 10 000 entries. Most of the participants take part in the 5km which is mostly a fun walk with big and small as well as young and old taking part while the 10km is a much more serious race with some of the best runners…

Standing in line

Today is South Africa's 4th democratic national elections. The polls opened at 07h00 and will be open untill 21h00 tonight. Because of the elections it is a national holiday to enable everybody to go and vote.

Probably one of the biggest challenges in the world of endurance sports is Ironman. Run all over the world, the only city in Africa to host an Ironman is Port Elizabeth. Port Elizabeth Airshow 2008

Today we had the annual Port Elizabeth Airshow. It is one of the big events on the events calender here in town and have participation from the South African Airforce, Acrobatic teams, Police and Rescue aircraft as well as private aircraft.
