The Wine Show 2013

I'm not a huge wine drinker.  Not that I don't want to but because I never really learned to drink wine.  Don't get me wrong though.  I enjoy a good wine as much as the next guy as long as it's something like a late harvest or a sweet Rosé.  This past weekend The Wine Show Nelson Mandela Bay took place in the city for the fourth consecutive year and for the first time at the brand new Boardwalk Convention Centre.  Some of…

Boardwalk in lights

Over the years the Boardwalk Complex has become one of Port Elizabeth's most popular attractions and this has become even more so with the addition of the new Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre.  The new building has changed the landscape of the beachfront and this I noticed again from across the Boardwalk lake while on my way to a meeting there the other night.

Boardwalk Hotel Luxury Suite

I don't think many of us will get the opportunity to stay at the Boardwalk Hotel very soon.  I for one can't afford 5 star hotel rates and will have to rely on an invitation by somebody for a complimentary stay if I want to do so. *Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, hint, hint*  I did have a peek into one of their Luxury Suites on a tour of the hotel the other night and here's sharing that peek with you.

The new Boardwalk Hotel

The new Boardwalk Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre officially opens this weekend.  I was fortunate to get a sneak peak the other day and was suitably impressed.  In the picture is the hotel lobby lounge area.

Installing the new Boardwalk fountain

Work on the new 5 star Boardwalk Hotel and the Nelson Mandela Bay International Convention Centre is at an advanced state with the opening date of 14 December approaching fast.  I got a preview of the convention centre a week or so ago and its looking stunning.  Another new feature at the Boardwalk after the opening will be a multi media fountain in the Boardwalk lake.  The fountain's mechanics arrived not to long ago and they are busy installing it with…

Rising Boardwalk development

The new 5 star hotel and conference centre development at the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex is starting to take shape very nicely.  Walking in from the main car park last weekend I noticed that the new building has now risen above the rest of the Boardwalk.  There are exciting times ahead as far as conferencing goes once the new conference centre is open.

So it is Christmas…..

To quote John Lennon "So this is Christmas, And what have you done, Another year over..."  It really feels like Christmas has creeped up on me and shouted "WHA!!!"  Last year I was in the Christmas spirit from late November already, but this year the working year seemed to have been so busy towards the end that it was halfway through December before I really started to hum Christmas songs. "Tra la la la laaaa, la la la la...."  Merry Christmas…

Boardwalk invasion

England played against Slovenia at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Thursday and they estimated that 20 000 England supporters descended on the city. Before the game the England fans flocked to the beachfront for a couple of beers before heading to the stadium. I popped down to the Boardwalk to see how many of them were around there and found that the place was teaming with red and white clad beer drinking English fans. The pubs must have made…
