Beach Aquatic Safety Zones

The Port Elizabeth beachfront isn't just utilised by bathers and swimmers.  Port Elizabeth and Algoa Bay isn't called the Watersports Capital of Africa for nothing.  To ensure everybody's safety the main beachfront, or Southern Beaches, have been divided into Beach Aquatic Safety Zones allowing for specific areas for bathers, paddlers, motorised water craft, surfers, kite surfers, SUP's, snorkeling, surfing, kite surfing and even fishing.

We have quiet beaches again

After a busy holiday season, life in Port Elizabeth has returned to normal.  I popped out to the beach during lunchtime one day this week and just enjoyed the wonderful beach we have between Hobie and Pollok, sharing it with only one or two others.

Flat rocks at Flat Rocks

Flat Rocks is the area between Pollok Beach and Cape REcife where the rocks stretch out to see at low tide.  The rocks are very accessible and very popular with fishermen.  The younger crowd in PE wouldn't know that the spot where the Flat Rocks parking area is now (across from the Humewood Golf Course entrance) used to be where the Palm Beach (Flat Rocks) Roadhouse was located.

Port Elizabeth beaches video

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGEzBiubR6g&w=500&h=400]I was digging around for a video to post for this week's Video Friday and found this short about Port Elizabeth's beaches on Rooms for Africa dating back to 2010.  It will be hard to disagree with anybody saying that we really have magnificent beaches here in PE.
