Summer in winter

Any visitor from outer space who landed up in Port Elizabeth over this weekend would have been very mistaken to think that it is the middle of summer.  With temperatures touching 30C, people seem to be have summer withdrawal symptoms and flocked to the beaches in numbers you rarely see in summer.  Check out how packed Pollok Beach was on this Sunday afternoon.

Silver seas at Hobie Beach

I needed to clear my head a bit this morning and took a walk across the road from the office and down onto Hobie Beach.  Not a lot of people around to enjoy the view of the sun glistening silver on the slightly choppy sea.  At least I could snap a pic to share with you.

Lifeguards not currently on duty

It's winter at the moment and the beach is pretty much empty, especially during the week.  But the lifeguard tower, although not manned at the moment, is waiting.  Summer will come again and so will the beach-goers.

Just the way to start a morning

The weatherman promised us a beautiful weekend and that's exactly how it started yesterday.  On my way to work yesterday morning I just had to pull over and snap a pic.  How can one not?

Perfectly Pollok

I think people are so used to Kings Beach, Humewood and Hobie that they often forget how awesome a beach Pollok Beach is.  It is a dangerous beach to swim at when the lifeguards aren't on duty, but it's great for a walk, to watch the surfers  and dolphins or to splash around with the kids in the tidal pool by the gap in the rocks in front of Something Good.

Crisp winters day

One of the things are enjoy most about winter is those crisp clear days.  They just make for much better photos than hot summer days.

The beach is calling

I don't think it matters if its summer or winter, living in Port Elizabeth means that the beach is always calling.  You don't have to go swim to go to the beach, just go for a walk or lets the kids run free a little.

McArthur’s and Kings Beach at night

Another one of the pictures I took while supporting the Ironman competitors last Sunday evening.  This time from next to Denville Beach looking past the McArthur's towards Kings Beach and the Port Elizabeth Harbour.  See if you can see the fisherman on the beach...

Humewood Beach

Humewood Beach is one of Port Elizabeth's premier beaches and is the oldest Blue Flag Beach in South Africa having received Blue Flag status from the first year of implementation.

Beach Aquatic Safety Zones

The Port Elizabeth beachfront isn't just utilised by bathers and swimmers.  Port Elizabeth and Algoa Bay isn't called the Watersports Capital of Africa for nothing.  To ensure everybody's safety the main beachfront, or Southern Beaches, have been divided into Beach Aquatic Safety Zones allowing for specific areas for bathers, paddlers, motorised water craft, surfers, kite surfers, SUP's, snorkeling, surfing, kite surfing and even fishing.
