Ensuring the future of the species

Now here's a photo you never thought you'll see on PEDP. I was lucky enough to capture this in the Addo Elephant National Park just outside Port Elizabeth some time ago. I did make one adjustment to the picture though. The female had a tracking collar on which I took out using Coral. The interesting thing about lions is that the male can mate with the female in heat every 20 minutes. Its like clockwork and you can just about…

Domkrag Waterhole

I just absolutely love the Addo Elephant National Park just outside Port Elizabeth. When I used to tour guide I got to visit the park at least once a week (at one stage I went there up to 5 or 6 times a week) and never got tired of it. According to those in the know, cheetahs are the only of the big cats that can be tamed 100%. But you still need to be careful when playing with him. Don't tickle his tummy and…

Gamtoos Dairy Farm

There are big dairy farming areas to both the east and the west of Port Elizabeth producing milk not just for the Port Elizabeth area, but also beyond. Some of these farms are massive, producing thousands of litres of milk every day. Most of the cows on these farms are Jersey and Friesian cows. The ones on this farm in the Gamtoos Valley west of Port Elizabeth are Jersey cows.

They are grazers which means that you would find them in the open grazing on grass, although they are known to browse as well when grass is in short supply. The Red Hartebeest is said to be the second fastest antelope in Africa after the Tsessebe. The name Red Hartebeest comes from the fact the Red: They are reddish in colour;Harte: When…
