A pigeon pair
There are so many pictures being taken of The Voting Line on the Donkin Reserve but often it is of the sculpture as a whole and the little details are missed. Like this pair of pigeons sitting on the wall.

The Donkin Reserve is one of Port Elizabeth's iconic tourism sites and combines history and public art. The pyramid, called the Donkin Memorial, was commissioned by Sir Rufane Donkin in 1820 as a memorial to his wife Lady Elizabeth Donkin after whom he also named the town. The lighthouse, actually called the Hill Lighthouse, was built in 1861 as a warning signal to approaching ships. Although not in use anymore it offers one of the best views anywhere in the…

Crossing the Kings Beach Park Lake on a Sunday morning on the way to the flea market
It's summer and that means warm weather and lazy days on the beach
Last Sunday we went for a walk along the Kings Beach Flea-market. Something we haven't had time for on a Sunday for quite a while. Although you can still pick up a few very nice things for gifts and souvenirs (and there were a few tourists and locals doing just that), it really isn't what it used to be a few years ago. Such a pity really as it's always been a very popular family pastime to go for a…
I haven't really had the opportunity to venture into the North Eastern Cape so a first visit to Matatiele in the Eastern Cape highlands near boundary with Kwa-Zulu Natal was on the cards while en route to the Drakensberg in December. Matatiele services the surrounding villages and farming community and gives a very good first impression. Even though it was a long weekend and only about a week before Christmas, the town was neat and tidy, unlike some of the…
During my weekly tourism slot on LuisterFM 90.6 last week the Lister Memorial in Summerstrand came up in the conversation. Even though the presenter had seen the stone monument before he had never knew what it was for. I just realised again that there aren't many people who did know about it and even if you had seen it you wouldn't know who Joseph Storr Lister was. So I decided to report a post I did about it in January…
Last night I got to go to a function at the Noordhoek Skiboat Club for the first time. It's hidden away on the coastline just below Marine Drive on the Wildside and consist of a nice big bar / restaurant space and an outside undercover braai area, all overlooking the coastline. Actually a very nice spot for a party with a stunning view of the ocean up to the Cape Recife lighthouse in the distance.
The first One Day International of the cricket series between South Africa and Sri Lanka took place here in Port Elizabeth today and I was there. It's been a while since I've been to an international cricket game and it was really a treat being able to go and enjoy it with Drama Princess. Other than the fact that the South African's totally dominates the day, the other thing that really caught my attention was how diverse the crowd was.…
