In the townships you get to see many unusual sites. Well, unusual for those of us not used to daily township life. One of those is seeing somebody prepare smileys. A smiley is the head of a sheep. It gets put into the fire to burn off all the hair and skin and then cooked. It is a traditional delicacy in the townships and a very popular dish. This lady was preparing smileys in Njoli Square.

The Public Library building next to Market Square was opened in 1902. The terracotta facade was manufactured in England and shipped to Algoa Bay in numbered pieces to be reassembled on site. The statue of Queen Victoria was unveiled in 1903 and is made of Sicilian marble.

The gardens behind the Cascades Hotel at Sun City is absolutely awesome. Not gardens in the traditional sense, but a man made forest garden with streams, ponds and waterfalls. At the bottom of the garden there is a small lake with an aviary next to it, so there are bird sounds all the time. Everything is super green as there are so much water around.
