Spooky full moon

A spooky full moon peeking past the branches of a spooky looking tree on a spooky fog cloudy evening. Not quite Halloween yet, but soon....Taken about a week and a half ago on our camping trip to Sleepy Hollow. (Spooky name as well)For more (probably not so spooky) pictures of the sky from all over the globe, visit Skywatch.

Cloudy streaks

Driving home the other afternoon I couldn't but help to stare at the sky in awe. There was the most amazing cloud streaks painted on a brilliant blue sky. As soon as I got home I grabbed my camera and ran out on the street to get a couple of shots. I couldn't really choose only one for here, so I posted the best three. Sunrise

This is sunrise over Algoa Bay here in Port Elizabeth. The start of another perfect day. This pic was taken a couple of minutes after the Chokka Boats at Sunrise pic of a week or so ago. For more absolutely breathtaking photos involving the sky, go to Skywatch.

Wading

Chaos Boy wading in the lagoon at the Maitlands River mouth just outside Port Elizabeth. I also took a couple of pics of the river on its own, but it needed a subject and I had my model (at this stage he still volunteers his services when required but sometimes grumbles when I take to long to get the right shot) on hand. The sky was such a great blue when we were there, so I decided to also use…

Straggler

On a recent visit to one of the game reserves close to Port Elizabeth, we found this lone European Swallow sitting on a fence. Most of the swallows have left up north already and the first thing that came to mind was "straggler". I can imagine him sitting there watching the sky and wondering if its really time to head north before winter arrives down here. For more great pictures where you can watch the sky like this little fellow,…

Kite surfing

The wind out at Cape St Francis was just right for the kite surfers to come out and play. The wind was on-shore and the guys were gunning it up and down the beach in the shallows. Chaos Boy was mesmerised by these guys being dragged around the sea by their big kites. I imagined him thinking something like: "One day when I'm big..." A close-up of one of the kite surfers as he came past usGo and visit Skywatch.…

Kite Spider and web

Ok, so this isn't a conventional Skywatch photo, but I love the way the sun shines through this spiders web we found on our visit to Addo Elephant Back Safaris. Sun = sky thus Skywatch. Getting a bit closer we found that the web belongs to a Kite Spider (Genus Gasteracantha). So Kite = Sky which means more reason to post this under Skywatch. The Kite Spider has a shiny and hard abdomen which is rather flattened with spiny projections.…

Knysna Sunset

The Knysna Heads is one of the best know landmarks on the Garden Route. The sea pushes into the Knysna Lagoon through the Heads, which is short for headlands. The Eastern Head has a very - and I mean VERY - upmarket residential area on it, while the Western Head is a protected area called Featherbed Nature Reserve. Sunset over the Knysna Lagoon For more awe inspiring photos from all over the world, visit Skywatch. Just follow the link.

Through the forest canopy

The forest giants of the Tsitsikamma is the Outeniqua Yellowwood. It is South Africa's national tree and grows over 800 years old. Inside the shady forest the sun isn't always visible, but where there are gaps in the forest canopy, usually where ancient trees nave fallen over, it does break through to reach the forest floor. Another sky shot through the canopy. For more awesome sky shots from all over the world, why not head over toe Skywatch Friday.
