Sunfish on the beach

Taking a walk along Noordhoek Beach in the Cape I stumbled on a dead sunfish.  This was only a baby, but still something very unusual to see washed up.  Sunfishes are so called because of their habit of drifting at the surface as if basking in the sun.  There are two species of sunfishes found in the waters surrounding Cape Town, the Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola) and the Sharptail Sunfish (Masturus lanceolatus).  Now I'm no sunfish expert so I'm not going…

Noordhoek beach

Barb wire silhouette sunset

Spending 10 days in Noordhoek on the Cape Peninsula one would have thought that I got a couple of nice sunset pics around the area.  But alas I didn't.  Don't ask me why.  One of the afternoons I did go out I headed onto the first part of Chapmans Peak Drive from the Noordhoek side to get a nice sunset with the Noordhoek beach in the foreground.  My position turned out to be wrong and the sun didn't even go down…

Sandy Bay

12 Apostles

The Twelve Apostles is probably the second most photographed mountain around Cape Town after Table Mountain's table top. The Twelve Apostles is part of the Tabel Mountain range as it stretched down towards Cape Point. The area in the distance is Camps Bay, an affluent area with a beachfront fringed by palm trees and trendy restaurants and night spots. Clifton Beach

The beach in Cape Town to be seen at during summer is Clifton Beach. But covered in bronzed bodies with skimpy bathing suites and designer sunglasses it wasn't when I stopped by last week on my visit to Cape Town. It was a bit too chilly for that. But summer is around the corner and I am sure there are a few out there in the mids of strict diets and gym sessions to get their "see and be seen"…

Twelve Apostles

The Twelve Apostles can be found on the Atlantic Seaboard of the Cape Peninsula. It forms part of the Table Mountain range and overlooks Camps Bay. The Atlantic Seaboard is one of Cape Towns most sought after and expensive areas and is very popular with both locals as well as holiday makers. One problem though... the water is c..c..c..cold...

Hout Bay

The village of Hout Bay is situated along the Atlantic coastline of the Cape Peninsula. The word Hout means wood in Afrikaans and was named such because of the forest found here when the first explorers discovered the bay. Cape Point Critters

Although the Table Mountain National Park is not a game reserve, it does have some game in the Cape of Good Hope section of the park. Land mammals include zebra, eland and baboon, while dolphins and whales are often spotted along the coastline.
