An Express Holiday In(n) Umhlanga

A walk along the beach in Jeffrey’s Bay

What good is a morning meeting in Jeffrey's Bay with perfect early summer weather if one can't leave a little earlier and go for a walk on the beach? The iconic Knysna Heads

What are the icons of the Garden Route? There are a few.  The adventure activities in the Tsitsikamma, Storms River Mouth, the view over the Beacon Isle Hotel with Robberg in the distance, the Knysna forest, the lakes around Sedgefield and Wilderness, Kaaimans Bridge outside Wilderness (especially when the Choo Tjoe still ran), Outeniqua Pass in George and the Dias Museum in Mossel Bay.  I left one out on purpose.  Probably (one of) the biggest icon on the Garden Route must be the…

Cape Recife Lighthouse

I wish I had more time to go and explore Cape Recife Nature Reserve more often with my camera.  It offers so many photo opportunities, one of these being the Cape Recife Lighthouse.  The lighthouse was built in 1851 on the western point of Algoa Bay.  Cape Recife is one of the major turning points on the South African coastline and the lighthouse warns ships of Thunderbolt Reef and other hazards which they have to give a wide berth.  The tower stands 24 metres…

A quick stop at Supertubes in Jbay

Wild Coast coastline

One of the trademarks of the coastline along the Wild Coast is rolling grassy hills that suddenly turn into vertical cliffs falling away to the ocean below.

Silver seas

Whenever there is a big cold front approaching the fishing boats fishing off Algoa Bay sails into the bay to seek shelter against the storm.  They normally anchor just offshore and wait out the storm before heading back out to continue fishing.

Where did Coffee Bay get it’s name?

This is the Wild Coast

Doesn't this just shout out Wild Coast to you?  A winding dirt road, rolling hills dotted with huts and villages and a beautiful rugged coastline second to none.  If you have never been there to experience and see this for yourself, then you really must make a plan cause you are missing out.The photo was taken on the road between Coffee Bay and Hole in the Wall.  #experienceeastcape
