Sunshine pier
Early morning at Shark Rock Pier on a sunny late autumn day
The three star Humewood Hotel on Marine Drive is one of the oldest hotels in the city and started its existence as the Humewood Mansions. The same family that was responsible for the building of the hotel still owns it now, three generations later. I dug around the internet a little and couldn't find a lot of information on the history of the hotel. Little snippets did crop up from an interview with Dave Snuggs, the general manager of the…
Bird Rock is a well known landmark between Hobie Beach and Pollok Beach, named so because there are always gulls and cormorants sitting on it. The paved road and parking area is called lovers lane. No need to explain that really.
I've been looking at old posts and dates and realised its been just over four years since I took over Port Elizabeth Daily Photo from Sue and Max. WOW, I can't believe that I've been at it for four years already. I also noticed that in a couple of weeks PEDP is coming up to 2000 posts of which by then I would have done 1500. But I'll wait for the actual occasion to get all soppy and emotional. Not just quite…
A couple of months ago I won a two nights Protea Hotel voucher in a competition and the expiry date started to approach so we decided to not go out of town for it but rather enjoy a weekend "holidaying" in our own home town. The KidZ stayed at their grandparents and the Damselfly and I just planned a weekend of relaxing and walking on the beachfront. Believe it or not, it actually felt like we were somewhere else. We…

Standing outside on the deck you can see the Piet Retief Monument in the foreground and the old Something Good roadhouse in the back. The roadhouse has stood empty for a couple of years now and extensive renovations have started on the building in the week after I took this picture. I think most people in town are very excited to see what…
The Humpback Dolphin Trail walkway along the Port Elizabeth beachfront is a great way to get some fresh air and explore the beaches. This section of the walkway follows the coast from the beacon at the end of Admirality Way towards Pine Lodge.
The area across the road from Brookes-on-the-Bay in Humewood has over the years established itself as an informal craft market with a number of stalls having sprung up there. Although the crafts are traditional African crafts, most of it gets brought here from elsewhere. Elsewhere being mostly up north from Zimbabwe. Although the crafts aren't "local", its very popular with international visitors as it's still African crafts they can take home with them.
The play park at the new Kings Beach development is officially the Kidz' new favorite play area in town with all its "different" activities. Personally I like the journey of giraffe next to the pathway which I have used as one of the clues in an "Amazing Race" type of competition called Travel Quest I organised for this past Monday.
