Beach walkway

I popped down to the beachfront the other day and drove along the paved path (also known as Lovers Lane) in front of the Marine Hotel. I stopped at one of the walkways to the beach and got this shot back towards Hobie Beach.

Hobie Beach at low tide

This pic may just look familiar. Yes, just look above at the image at the title of the blog. I realised that I have never posted this pic in its entirety, so here it is. It was taken at low tide a little futher down Hobie Beach and looking back Shark Rock Pier.

New hotel construction

There are lots of construction going on in and around town. Some of the projects (mostly infrastructure) are related to the 2010 FIFA World Cup while others are part of the growth of Port Elizabeth. There is a new hotel going up on the beachfront across the road from Humewood Beach on what used to be the City Lodge's parking area. For a long time it looked like there was very little going on as they were excavating, but since…

Taking the dog for a stroll

Another picture from our trip down to the beach on Sunday. A couple (not sure if it an actual couple or father and daughter, but that doesn't matter) taking their dog for a walk with Shark Rock Pier and a part of Central in the background. It was an unusual angle as you don't often see the pier with town looking so close in the background.

PE Coastline

Just over a month ago I posted a pic of the PE beachfront's light which was taken from Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach. Yesterday I popped down to the beach during lunch time as the weather was absolutely awesome (yes, spring is banging the door down). I took a picture of the same piece of coastline from the pier to show you what it looks like during the day.

In need of paint

Ok, so not the best advert for PE's beachfront, but I liked the look of the picture in the early morning sun. This is the bottom seaward side of the beachfront promenade between McArthur's Swimming Pool and Humewood Beach. The section of the promenade wall is in desperate need of a coat of paint. Perhaps the "powers that be" will give it a coat before the summer holiday season arrives.

Beachfront lights

The lights along the Port Elizabeth beachfront as seen from Shark Rock Pier looking towards Humewood (left), Kings Beach (middle) and the harbour (the bright lights on the right).

Deserted beach

With autumn settled in and winter sneaking in through the back door, it also means that temperatures are dropping and beaches are becoming deserted. I took this pic down at Hobie Beach a week or so ago on a Sunday morning. Although there were quite a few people taking walks and cycling along the beachfront promenade, the beach was visibly empty.

Under the promenade

Visitors to Port Elizabeth's beachfront will more than likely take a walk along the beachfront promenade between Kings Beach and Hobie Beach past Humewood Beach and Happy Valley. The other day walking along there I decided to climb down the steps to the small strip of beach and got this photo looking towards Hobie Beach side. The promenade is visible on the left.
