Tsitsikamma Village Inn

If somebody had to ask me right now what my absolute favorite hotels are the first one on my list would be the three star Tsitsikamma Village Inn in Storms River Village.  "Why?" I hear you ask.  I absolutely love the hotel not just for one specific reason but because of the sum of a number of reasons.  The hotel is situated in the heart of the beautiful Tsitsikamma, its a stone's throw from the indigenous Tsitsikamma forest with the stunning…

Montagu Caravan Park

Over the last five years we have developed into a real camping family.  Camping allows us to get out into nature more than we would staying in an hotel or guesthouse and because its cheaper it also allows us to have longer holidays.  When we started camping we decided to always try out new places and in that way get to see more destinations and areas around out beautiful country.  The Damselfly decided to book us for 10 days at the Montagu Caravan…

Klip-Els Guest Lodge

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Klip-Els Guest Lodge in North Riding area of Johannesburg.  The place was such a surprise to me when I got there.  Although the guest house is in Johannesburg, its situated on a 3 hectares property.  This gives one the feeling like you are somewhere in the bushveld rather than in the city.  Although you can hear some traffic somewhere off in the distance, you wake up to the sound of bird calls rather than city…

Victoria and Alfred Hotel

I was hoping to get a couple of nice sunsets and other sky photos to use on Skywatch Fridays during my recent trip to Cape Town, but alas the weather didn't really allow it and the mountain was just about covered with clouds every day. So this is the closest I got to getting a nice sky picture. The sun reflecting on the water in front of the 4 star Victoria and Alfred Hotel at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. If you…

Drostdy Hotel

Last weekend I did a post on Graaff Reinet Museums. Graaff Reinet has another prominent Cape Dutch style building which used to be the old Drostdy and is now the Drostdy Hotel. The building was constructed in 1806 as the Drostdy of the district. The Drostdy was normally the official residence and seat of the magistrate. The hotel is a real gem and contains original yellow wood floors, Persian Carpets and antique furniture. The hotel's accommodation is situated behind the…

Tuishuise and Victoria Hotel

We spend a weekend at the very interesting Tuishuise in Cradock recently. The Tuishuise is an elegant collection of beautifully restored Victorian era craftsmen’s houses in this Karoo town about 3 hours north of Port Elizabeth. The more than two dozen Tuishuise line Market Street and are furnished with mostly antique furniture. Each house constitudes unit so you won't be sharing your house with anybody else. We were there in winter so the fireplace in our unit came in very…

Elephants Footprint Lodge

This last weekend we needed to get away, so we dropped the Rugrats at the in-laws and headed out to Addo Elephant National Park. We drove through the park and spent the night at the four star Elephants Footprint Lodge in Colchester. The thatched lodge is ideally situated just outside the park's southern gate and a super spot to spend a couple of days while exploring the park and area. The lodge has 12 magnificent suites to relax in. The…

Angler and Antelope Guest House

A weekend or two ago we spent the weekend in Somerset East at the guest house of a friend. The Angler and Antelope is situated in the heart of this quaint Karoo town and is truly worthy of its 4 star status. The property consist of a seven room guesthouse as well as a self catering unit called Fisherman's Cottage. A unique feature on the property is the St Francis Culinary Centre which acts as the guest house's lounge, dining…
