Icons of the Karoo – Farm gate
After posting "Quintessential Karoo" of the people walking on the dirt road in the Karoo the other day I started thinking. What do people associate with the Karoo? I came up with the following. Big skies, dusty roads, wind mills (windpompe), flowering aloes, sheep and Angora goats, Karoo koppies, inspiring silence, beautiful sunsets, farm gates, Karoo bush and historic towns and landmarks. The Karoo has so much to offer, you just need to know where to look and what to look for.

Horse riding at Holmeleigh Farmyard
When people get to Holmeleigh Farmyard the first thing that they normally do is to go and feed the animals. There after the moms (and dads) normally sit down for some coffee and perhaps something to eat while the kids head off to go and play in the big playing area. Elephant family
One can never emphasise enough how amazing a park the Addo Elephant National Park is. I think a lot of people underestimate Addo but the beauty of that is that when they visit their expectations are completely blown away. Crane your neck
The Campanile was built to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the landing of the 1820 British Settlers. The 54 meter high building with its 204 steps were constructed on what used to be the landing beach, today standing between the Port Elizabeth harbour and the Settlers Freeway. Reflections at Amsterdamhoek
In 16 December 1817 the Dutch troop carrier Amsterdam was on its way to the Netherlands on a return journey from the Dutch East Indies when it hit a fierce storm off Algoa Bay. I wonder if anybody in Port Elizabeth knows when the first Art in the Park took place? Art in the Park has been happening in St Georges Park on the last Sunday of the month for just about forever.
