The village of Hout Bay is situated along the Atlantic coastline of the Cape Peninsula. The word Hout means wood in Afrikaans and was named such because of the forest found here when the first explorers discovered the bay. Settlers Park covers 76 hectares on the banks of the Baakens River and contains an unique diversity of plant life and about 120 species of birds. Small animals like grysbok and mongoose can be seen and down by the river there are leguaan and terrapin. After visiting Germany (here, here, here and here), we headed for London to take part in World Travel Market, the biggest travel trade show in the world. Most of the tour operators doing township tours have projects that they support. Somewhere along the tour they would stop at a school, creche or feeding scheme for a visit. A portion of the tour's income also gets donated to that specific project. Most of the time the tourists would also open their hearts and wallets and in this way many worthy projects in the townships keep afloat. The St Mary's Cemetery is probably the oldest formal cemetery in Port Elizabeth and can be found close to the city centre. It is situated near the mouth of the Baakens River on the banks of what used to be the fresh water lagoon after which Algoa Bay was named. During the Second World War 85% of Hannover was destroyed during the Allied bombings. This means that only a small part of historic Hannover was preserved. The historic part of Hannover is called the Old Town and was beautifully restored. To me these buildings are what I would call typical European (or at least German) buildings and I just loved the architecture, colours and specially the wood used in the structures. The third and last city we visited in Germany was Hannover, capital of the province of Lower Saxony. Hannover has about 515 000 inhabitants and was documented for the first time in the 11th century. A little while ago I got to go on the Sundays River Ferry in Colchester. The ferry trip takes you up stream to the old bridge and then down towards the river mouth where passengers can get off and climb the giant sand dunes.
