Tsitsikamma Inheemse woud

Joubert House

Most people probably find town museums quite boring, but I love what they have to offer.  Its usually the best place to learn more about a town's history and there is always something, usually more than one thing, new to discover in these museums.  One such small town museum which I have discovered is Joubert House in the Klein Karoo town of Montagu.  My timing wasn't the best and I walked into the museum about 20 minuted before closing time…

Lake Farm lake

The Lake Farm lake on Lake Side Road in the Kragga Kamma area west of the city is the biggest fresh water lake in Port Elizabeth.  The lake is quite a popular fishing spot but to get access you need to belong to a club which will organise you permission to go in.  Lake de la Vie wedding venue and Royalson Game Reserve is situated to the west of the lake, basically behind my back as I took this picture.

Volstruisresies

Hoeveel mense kan op hulle cv skryf dat hulle 'n professionele volstruisjoggie is?  Nie baie nie, maar as jy hulle in aksie wil sien is die beste plek een of twee van die volstruisplase net buite Oudtshoorn.  Die volstruisresies in die foto vind plaas by Safari Volstruisplaas 'n paar kilometer buite dié bekende Klein Karoo dorp.

Serval Cat

I have never had the opportunity to see a real live serval cat before seeing that they are extinct in the Eastern and Western Cape.  Visiting the Royalston Game Reserve just outside Port Elizabeth not long ago the owners took us to have a look at their Serval rehabilitation project.  They obtained two serval cats from another rehabilitation project and they have had three babies which are being prepared for release at one of the big private game reserves near Port Elizabeth. …

Skipping along the new stream

One of the water features that form part of the new Kings Beach development is a stream that flows from the new fountain down to the shallow lake.  One of the things I like about it is that there are cement strips as well as rock features along the stream which means that kids can follow it from start to end.

Nelson Mandela Square

Nelson Mandela Square is geleë in die hartjie van Sandton, Johannesburg en die fokuspunt van Nelson Mandela Square is 'n ses meter hoë brons standbeeld van die bekende staatsman homself.  Die standbeeld is in 2004 onthul om nie net die tiende verjaardag van Sandton City winkelsentrum te vier nie, maar ook 10 jaar van demokrasie.Die standbeeld self staan nie net ses meter hoog nie, maar weeg ook 2,5 ton.  Ek wonder of Kobus Hatting en Jacob Maponyane, die kunstenaars verantwoordelik…

Kings Beach fountain

The first phase of the Kings Beach redevelopment has been completed for a little while now but I haven't had an opportunity to check it out until today. Wow!
