Yesterday-today-and-tomorrow

The Yesterday-today-and-tomorrow (Brunfelsia pauciflora) is a fascinating flowering bush which originally came from Brazil. It is very unique as the flowers open purple before turning light lavender and finally white before wilting. This means that you get all three colours on the plant all the time. A word of warning though. The plant is known to contain poisonous alkaloids. The berries are especially toxic.

Hm, toxic berries with colorful flowers. Notice any birds or animals around it?

Love these shrubs! Have 4 in my garden .. but must admit never noticed the berries. We had a huge old one which had to come down when we built the garage and didn't notice berries on that either. Although if it has a flower it must have some kind of berry, hey? My neighbour was most upset when we cut the large one down as she always got the scent wafting over to her garden.
