Most of Port Elizabeth’s monuments are located around Central and the city centre. There are a few outside of those areas though. One example is the Piet Retief monument and another is the Cenotaph in front of the Walmer Townhall. I stopped at the Cenotaph with Drama Princess and snapped a few pics while she was checking it out. The Cenotaph contains the names of the men from Walmer who died during the two world wars. Why does Walmer have a Cenotaph while there is one in front of St Georges Park as well? Well, Walmer used to be a town of its own independent from Port Elizabeth until the 1970’s.

Nice shot and info. Such a beautiful day and we are buried in snow! Love your Pier Waves shot.
I like the angle of the first shot! And look at your lovely blue sky … we are cloudy and cold -again – today 🙁 Also like the creative one on previous post of flowers and monument in the background!
Isn't it wonderful to actually see evidence of our history.
Oh how horrible wars are!! Great shots Jonker but what is that animal?
Lovely warm feel to this photo, Jonker. And the human element (in the form of Drama Princess) adds to the scene.
