I had to drive to Port Alfred (about 150km or 1 and a half hours west of Port Elizabeth) for business the other day. While waiting at a stop/go on the roadworks along the R72, I noticed this lone tree in the middle of a plowed field. Peculiar. Unfortunately it was a bit foggy and hazy so the pic isn’t crisp, but adding the spotlight effect does help to hide it.
The lonely tree

The effect that you have used is similar to vignetting. It does reduce quite a bit of the blur – good way to focus on the object. I drive the same road and was delayed at all of the stop/go points – did not see the tree – shows who was awake and who was asleep. Images are all around us.
I really like that! I dont know exactly why but it reminds me of the tree adam and eve had problems with!
Nice to see a little bit of shade in the field. Nice capture Jonker. Is there a lot of road work going on?
I have often seen them do this Jonker. It must be a shady spot so that they can eat their lunch in it. 🙂
🙂 I agree with SAPhotographs (Joan) .. it's a little oasis!!! It's hot out there .. in the boiling sun sometimes!!!Like the effect (photo) – looks like a scene from the old series of Top Gear with the shadowy frame .. need a car to speed passed now !
Nice! Glad to hear you've had rain! You have waited sooooo long!
I also think it is a “lunch” spot. Up here in the Bosveld, farmers often leave a Maroela, or similar shade tree in the fields specifically for that reason. Beautiful photo. If I ever take up photography it will be because of your inspitation.
It's a perfect capture – I just love how beautifully the tree stands there – soo proud!! Funny you mention the haze .. I've noticed most of my images from last summer already have haze …. it's the amount of rain we have had up in Gauteng….Gena @ Thinking Aloud
