Night time stadium

Today is a historic day in Port Elizabeth.  The Southern Kings are making their (very controversial)Super Rugby debut against the Western Force in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tonight.  A capacity crowd is expected and let's hope the boys don't disappoint in front of their home supporters.

Stadium pest control

Did you know that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth  is the only poison free stadium in the world?  From the outset the stadium has worked hand in hand with the Urban Raptor Project to fight the potential problems of feral pigeons, crows, rats and insects in a natural way.  Trained falcons have been brought in from time to time to chase and hunt the pigeons that try to move into the stadium.  A while ago I attended a rugby…

Night time in the stadium

Attending The Wine Show at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium I had the opportunity to peek inside the stadium at the field without the flood lights being on.  Calm before the Springboks take on England in a rugby test on 23 June.

Celebrations

Celebrations as the All Blacks receive the trophee as winners of the South African leg of the IRB 7's World Series in Port Elizabeth.Another reason to celebrate is the fact that today is Port Elizabeth Daily Photo's 1500th post and thus my 1000th post since taking over the blog from Max and Sue.  This comes shortly after I recently did post number 1000 on The Firefly Photo Files as well.  Thank you to all the loyal followers of PEDP for your regular visits as well…

IRB 7’s action

On Friday and Saturday (9 and 10 December 2011) the South African leg of the IRB 7's World Series took place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for the first time.  Getting the 7's to the city was a big scoop and the action on and off the field didn't disappoint.  The event truly lived up to it's billing as "Rugby's Biggest Party".  Below are a couple of snaps I took from both next to the field as well as…

Full house

Full house at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for the EP Kings' last game of the season a couple of weeks ago.  It was the second leg promotion / relegation game against the Pumas and unfortunately the Kings didn't win which means another year in the first division.  On the up side. Most of the teams in the premier division can't garner this type of support for key matches, so its a feather in the supporters' hats. EP Rugby is on…
