Sunny mast

I had to go and meet somebody at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club the other day which gave me an excuse to take a stroll along the walkway between the yachts and get some pictures. And I have learned that when taking pictures you have to always be on the lookout for a potential Skywatch pic.

Smokey sun

Dias cross candle

You know when you want to take a picture of something and you have an certain image in your head, but you just can't capture it? It happens so often to me, but in this case I got just what I wanted. Two suns

The reflection of the sun in one of the farm dams at Buffelshoek near Graaff Reinet. The previous day the area had a monster of a thunder storm which filled in all the dams in the area, so the picture would not have been possible the day before. Strange night sky

A little while ago I popped outside one evening to pull the car into the garage and saw the most unusual sky. It wasn't quite a big ring around the moon, but rather more a big patch of light in the sky around the moon with the darkness moving in like a cold front. There was a distinct line between the light and dark areas and after about 10 or 15 minutes the light was just about gone. Very strange.

Full Moon

Friday night it was full moon and the moon just looked bigger than normal. I only have a mid range camera (the fixed lens type with 15x optical zoom) and take most of my pic's with the setting on auto, so I have never been able to take a proper moon photo. Moon dancing with Venus and Jupiter

For the last couple of nights we had a bit of a lunar spectacle in the early evening sky. Looking to the west the moon was flanked by two bright stars. To the left and slightly above the moon was Venus, the evening star, and below to the right was Jupiter.
