Promoting the Boardwalk AND Port Elizabeth

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEv4jItKb6k&w=500&h=400]I was looking for a video to post for today's Video Friday post and found this stunning video by Sun International promoting the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino complex.  More importantly, they are promoting Port Elizabeth along with the Boardwalk.  Whoever commissioned this video and worked on the project gets that everybody has to be a destination marketer as much as a product marketer as visitors first select a destination before they choose at which establishment they want to stay.  Well…

Discover Freedom destination video

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO5kb_-nrhA&w=500&h=400]For a big period of the time that I worked for Nelson Mandela Bay the tagline used by the organisation was "Discover Freedom".  It was a play on words using the link of Nelson Mandela's name and freedom from Apartheid but also referred to the freedom the city offers visitors to choose what they want to do without saying "you have to do this or that", our wide open spaces, wildlife and many attractions.  When I started working there in…

Nelson Mandela Bay from the air

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNZM98qs0oE&w=500&h=400]I just realised that I don't have a photo on hand to post for today so I have decided to swop tomorrow's Video Friday post with today and post a video instead.  This week's featured video is a stunning one by Hurricane Productions showing some of Nelson Mandela Bay's favorite destinations and attractions from the air.

Things to do in Port Elizabeth #Blogathon

Nine bloggers (seven of those based in PE) were asked to create posts about things to do in Port Elizabeth as part of the Cheap Flights Port Elizabeth #Blogathon 2016 in collaboration with Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism and Travel Concept Solution.  All nine posts have been published in the last two days and covered a range of things to do for both big and small.  Rather than a photo I decided to post the nine links for you to enjoy…

Things to do in Port Elizabeth this summer – Grab a backpack and take a hike

There is an Afrikaans folk song that goes, Dis heerlike Lente, die Winter's verby... (It's time for Spring now that Winter has passed - doesn't quite roll off the tongue the same in English though) which means Summer is fast approaching.  Longer days, better weather and spending more time outdoors over weekends.  Plus the holiday season is coming up quicker than my sausage dogs when I open the fridge.  With an eye on said better weather and upcoming holiday season, I…

A romantic evening at The Plantation

When you are young and in love you go out your way to be romantic.  Flowers, movies, open the door, whispers in the ear, special dinners and and and.  When you get slightly older and have kids, just spending a little time together on your own without the kids is seen as romantic.  For us it is anyway.  Now when you get to combine both of these, you know you have a winner on your hands.  And a winner I…

Master Chef judging, the Firefly version – Ginger Restaurant

Port Elizabeth is very quickly getting a reputation as a good food destination with visiting bloggers and journalists raving about the variety and quality of restaurants and food markets available around the city in their articles.  Now I'm not food expert although I am known to enjoy a good steak / pizza / chop and braaibroodjie / plate of home cooked food / cinnamon and sugar pancake / or > insert whatever food here< on occasion.  I'm not the judgmental…

Sunrise at Shark Rock Pier

I was early getting to work this morning so I kept going past my normal turnoff and pulled into the parking at Hobie Beach to see if I can snap a nice sunrise picture at the pier...

“Living in PE” – sing along, you know the words

?feature=player_embeddedAbout a week ago I saw a clip on Facebook where the "Living in PE" song was performed on Morning Espresso on SABC 3.  I really wanted to share the clip with you, but... you guessed it, I can't rememeber where I saw it.  So in it's place I am reposting the original Jannie and Baksteen music video.  I have posted it before but this song is so bad that it is good and I promise you the tune will…

Feel Free in Nelson Mandela Bay

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO5kb_-nrhA&w=500&h=400]I was looking for a video to post for today's Video Friday post and found a little bit of nostalgia for me.  I worked for Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism from 2008 to 2014 and when I started there this video was the destination marketing video used to promote the city.  I think it dates back to probably 2006 which means it's about 10 years old.  It was replaced by a newer video in 2010 but it's distinct music will always…
