Valley sunrise

Sunrise over the Port Elizabeth Harbour as seen from a viewpoint over the Baakens River Valley in South End. Sunrise and sunsets are my favorite photos to take, but due to the whole getting up early enough in the morning to get to see sunrise, I do more sunsets. LOL!

Campanile view

The observation deck at the top of the Campanile allows one magnificent views towards all directions. Looking over the harbour you get to see all the cars waiting to be loading onto car ships for export. The only downside, or in this case literally the upside, to reaching this view is climbing up the 204 steps to get to the top.

Fishing boats

The Port Elizabeth Harbour is used by commercial boats, fishing boats and recreational boats (yachts). People normally associate fishing with the small harbours along the South Western Cape and West Coast, so PE doesn't get seen as much of a fishing harbour. But that is where they are wrong. It does have a huge number of fishing boats that are based here and that offload their catch at the fishing facilities. Most of the catch gets processed here so you…

Tuna Classic

Late last week the annual Algoa Bay Tuna Classic took place from the Port Elizabeth Deep Sea Angling Club in the PE Harbour. The winning catch in this year's competition was a 83kg yellow fin tuna caught 26 miles from the harbour by local fisherman Ruvaan Palm and his team on board the Seriola. In the picture is Brian Webb from the boat Tempissed with a 119.5kg marlin caught on the same day as the winning yellow fin tuna.

Hazy city centre

I had to pop down to the beachfront the other day and got this shot across the Bay towards a hazy city centre with the tank farm and manganese ore dumps in the foreground.

Yachts and fishing boats

The other day I had to go and meet somebody at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club which gave me an excuse to take a walk down the walkway between the moorings. This gave me the opportunity to get a couple of pics around the area which I will post from time to time. This is a view between the yachts towards some of the fishing boats that use the Port Elizabeth harbour.

Harbour Tugs

I posted a shot of the tug mooring area from a harbour vantage point in August, but got a totally different view from the top of the Campanile the other day which I want to show you.

Fog

We don't get much fog in Port Elizabeth and if we do it clears up by mid morning at the latest. The other day the coastal part of the city was shrouded in fog for most of the day. I stopped at the Humerail Shopping Centre overlooking the harbour to get a pic of what it looked like. Pity I wasn't on holiday yet as I had lots of photo ideas I would have liked to have tried out. Oh…
