Takazi Waterfall – hidden on the Wild Coast

One of the first things I did when I knew I was getting to explore the Wild Coast a little bit was to check if there will be any Geocaches on the route I was going to follow.  Although there weren't a whole lot I made sure I saved those I would be able to do on my phone before hitting the road.  Driving along the gravel road to Wavecrest Hotel I had a look to see where the closest cache was…

Riding a Geocache tractor

There are certain geocaches which is just easier to do if you have a kid with you, especially when it is hidden somewhere around a kiddies play area.  This was the case last weekend when I stopped by Grass Roof on Seaview Road and needed Drama Princess to cover me while looking for cache.  She immediately hopped on the tractor and I pretended to take a picture of her while retrieving the container.

Caching walk

Last weekend I went for a Geocaching outing with Drama Princess.  Two of the caches we did was along a path in the Sardinia Bay Nature Reserve.  I love how Geocaching is allowing me to spend time with my KidZ in the outdoors.

World Wide Flash Mob XII – PE edition

Today is World Wide Flash Mob XII.  It's a Geocaching event started twelve years ago with the purpose of being a short gathering of Geocachers, lasting 30 minutes before everybody heads off again.  Very much a flash mob.  This year the Port Elizabeth Geocachers gathered at the Sacramento cannon in Schoenmakerskop and the theme chosen for our flash mob was bubbles and balloons.  At exactly 12:15  we took our group photo as required and started blowing our bubbles.  Quite a few…

Barking up the wrong tree

I joined a couple of fellow cachers on a Geocaching expedition today.  We needed to call in the help of Mr Stretch and even then there were times that he wasn't tall enough.  Heck, we didn't even know if we were checking the right tree... Or were we?

Geocaching Swag

One of the fun aspects of Geocaching, specially when you cache with children, is finding bigger caches containing SWAG.  SWAG is an acronym for "Stuff We All Get" and are small trade items.  The rule with SWAG is that if you want to take something you have to replace it with something of equal or greater value.  Drama Princess has a SWAG bag in her Geocaching bag with items to swop if she finds anything she likes.  This SWAG box…

Crawling over pipes

Geocaches aren't always easy park and grabs.  Sometimes you have to put a little effort into getting to it

Finding a nano cache in the gabions

This week's Geocaching Saturday picture is one I took a little while ago but have never posted on PEDP.  It shows the type of hide that most people love to hate.  Try finding a nano cache (a cache that is about as big as your little finger nail) in gabions. *evil laugh*  This one isn't one of mine though.  It belongs to experienced caching team Wikkelgat who probably does that evil laugh every time they hear somebody tried and failed…

AutoPavilion Geocache

One of my favorite geocaches done lately was one located inside the VW AutoPavilion in Uitenhage.  The coordinates take you to the museum itself from where you have to follow the instructions in the cache description.  These tell you to look for the blue racing car and to get in to find the cache.  I'm giving this one away a bit, but the container is muggle proof so doing so isn't the end of the world.  The cache container turned out…

Coastal hiking at St Francis Bay

The St Francis Bay / Cape St Francis area has a number of hiking options and with such a stunning coastline how can it not?  Most of the walks are shorter hikes and include coastal walks like the Blowhole Walk, Bay to Bay Walk, Shark Point Walk, Wild Side Meander and the Two Harbours Walk.  There are also walks through the Irma Booysen Flower Reserve and up into the dune fields at the Sand River.  If you really want to experience the…
