Scuba diving party in Port Elizabeth

Parties are getting more and more sophisticated.  Back in our days it was kids coming over and eating cake and sweets while watching a video and playing.  These days parents are pulling out all the stops to make a child's birthday party a memorable one and with two kids, a boy and a girl, we've been to everything. Movies, ice skating, trampoline park, pool parties, supertube, survival parties and more.  But Drama Princess had a first the other day.  A…

Having a ball at Baywest

We're usually home having a braai on a Saturday evening but today we headed to Baywest for some late afternoon shopping  and dinner while Chaosboy went ice skating with a friend.  The entertainment area and food court was buzzing all afternoon and got even busier as the sun went down with people (young and / or old) either going to the ice skate rink, movies or the restaurants.

Then and Now – Beachfront Fun fair

Driving past Kings Beach yesterday morning I noticed that "Playland" (because that is what we still call it even if it has a different name these days) is busy setting up for the coming summer holidays.  Just the day before Cat Anderson James posted a Fun fair Then and Now on the Ex PE 60's 70's, 80's group on Facebook.  If I'm correct the "Then" fun fair was located somewhere around Humewood beach.  The "Now" photo I took a year or…

Bigger, better, louder and more awesome. Imax comes to Port Elizabeth

I have never been to an Imax movie so big was my excitement when I received an invitation from Ster-Kinekor to the grand opening of their brand new cinema complex at Baywest in Port Elizabeth.  The complex is made up of 5 regular cinemas, two Cine Prestige luxury cinemas (kitted out with reclining chairs and the works) and, the cherry on top, an Imax cinema.  Only the fourth one in South Africa.  Did I mention that Joburg hasn't got an Imax yet.  Cool,…

It's bigger... It's better... It's louder... It's Imax and it's here in Port Elizabeth.  Ster Kinekor has opened it's fourth Imax theatre right here in Port Elizabeth as the new Baywest mall.  Last night Chaos Boy and I joined the who's who of the Bay at the grand opening of Imax.  And was it a grand opening. VIP welcome, blue carpet, cocktails, snacks and then it was movie time.  Jurassic World in 3D. Wow, wow, wow!!!  Imax, along with 5 regular cinemas and two luxurious…

Sibaya Entertainment Kingdom

Driving from the uShaka International Airport to Durban along the coastal (Umhlanga) road, the African themed Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom is visible on the hillside.  I didn't have time to look around the casino but did take a drive up to the entrance before I had to be on my way again.  There are some beautiful coastal views from up there.  Sibaya is one of two licenced casinos in Durban and if you do decided to visit it, gamble responsibly.

Drumming

Drumming sessions is a great part of any corporate team building.  At the end of last year we had a drumming session with African Drumbeat during our end of year function at Thunzi Bush Lodge.  I don't want to say I was sceptical, just not sure what to expect.  In the end though I was pleasantly surprised.  Such an awesome activity to do with one's colleagues and once you get started you kinda wonder where you can get your hands on…

Bridge Street Brewery

Its Friday afternoon and the end of a tough work week.  Feel like a quick drink with some friends to celebrate the coming of the weekend before heading home?  One of the best place in town to do that is the very popular Bridge Street Brewery next to the Baakens River on Upper Valley Road.  The plan was to start out as a pub, move on to food and the open their own micro brewery.  Fortunately for us they were kinda "forced", due…

Buskers

There are often a busker or dancers entertaining passing folk on the promenade at Hobie Beach hoping for a couple of coins (or notes).  Last week on passing I noticed two buskers combining their talents and creating a bit of a vibe in front of the Hobie Beach Boardwalk.  The guy with the guitar plays and sings quite well and with the djembe drummer joining him they created a very unique and interesting sound which attracted quite a number of onlookers.
