Boardwalk Hotel view to Millers

This is the view standing on the Boardwalk Hotel's pooldeck looking towards Millers and Pollok Beach.  The middle rock of the lot is Bird Rock and Hobie Beach is just to the left of the picture.  With all the palm trees one who don't know the PE beachfront could easily think it's somewhere tropical.  Heck, with some of these hot and humid days we've been having it could just as well be.

Then and Now – Beachfront Fun fair

Driving past Kings Beach yesterday morning I noticed that "Playland" (because that is what we still call it even if it has a different name these days) is busy setting up for the coming summer holidays.  Just the day before Cat Anderson James posted a Fun fair Then and Now on the Ex PE 60's 70's, 80's group on Facebook.  If I'm correct the "Then" fun fair was located somewhere around Humewood beach.  The "Now" photo I took a year or…

Denville Beach in the late afternoon

Looking towards Denville Beach and the McArthur Pool Complex in the late afternoon standing on the little surf wall I posted about a few days ago.

I just love the PE beachfront

I just love the Port Elizabeth beachfront.  I love that you can walk or go for a jog all the way from the harbour wall to the lollipop beacon in Summerstrand.  I love that we have a clean beachfront.  I love that it isn't over developed.  I love the stunning views.  I love our swimming beaches.  I love that so many different watersports can be done on our beachfront.  I just love the Port Elizabeth beachfront.

Fairytale Boardwalk Hotel

The Boardwalk Hotel, all lit up and looking like a fairytale castle, with Shark Rock Pier, all lit up, Hobie Beach, all lit up, and the beachfront, all lit up.  Isn't the beachfront just beautiful at night?

Shark Rock Pier from the north – plus a question for followers

Yesterday I posted a photo of Shark Rock Pier all lit up since it's revamp as seen from Hobie Beach.  I thought I'll follow it up with a photo from the other side.  I think I prefer this one of the two.  Perhaps it's just the angle that is tighter or the fact that there are rocks on this side.  Which ever, I like it.I have a question for you today and you can either give me your opinion as a…

Summerstrand skyline

Every time I visit Durban and see how over developed their beachfront it is, I think of our own.  We truly are very fortunate in Port Elizabeth that our beachfront wasn't developed like the one in Durbs.  That we can drive normally along our beachfront and not struggle along narrow roads through tons of traffic.  The we don't struggle for parking.  That we can see the ocean from most of it without having a lot of buildings on the seas side…

Something Good Graffiti – the alien head

This piece of graffiti in front of Something Good really caught my attention.  Not because of it's size or the colours or artistic techniques, but rather the subject.  Not quite ET, not quite Gollum. Whoevere and whatever he is, he's clearly fascinated by that fishing hook he's holding.

Something Good Graffiti – Octopus

I had a meeting at Something Good at Pollok Beach the other day and just had to snap a pic of the graffiti on the walls in front of the restaurant.  Graffiti has gone huge in Johannesburg and we have a lot of catching up to do here in PE.  Some people love it while others don't, but love or hate, a piece like this does make you stop and take notice.

Aerial video clips of the Donkin and beachfront

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Xe1HtbjlY&w=500&h=400]While looking for a clip to post for this week's Video Friday I found this video on YouTube.  It involves aerial footage shot with a drone and a GoPro of the Donkin Reserve and the beachfront area. How I wish I had the money for a drone and GoPro.  Imagine the excellent footage I would be able to shoot on my travels.
