South End street view

I took a couple of my colleagues on a walk around the South End Museum Heritage Trail with stops at some of the main heritage sites along the trail.  After looking around the St Peter's Church ruins this was the view as we were heading down the street towards Walmer Boulevard.  I kinda wish I lived this close to the beachfront.

Mid morning pier

There's some cold and wet weather heading our way this weekend so I decided to try and warm us up with a mid morning picture of Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach in black and white.

Skipping along the new stream

One of the water features that form part of the new Kings Beach development is a stream that flows from the new fountain down to the shallow lake.  One of the things I like about it is that there are cement strips as well as rock features along the stream which means that kids can follow it from start to end.

Kings Beach fountain

The first phase of the Kings Beach redevelopment has been completed for a little while now but I haven't had an opportunity to check it out until today. Wow! It’s looking very good and with work starting on phase 2 and the vegetation from phase 1 starting to establish itself I'm sure it’s going to be stunning by the end of the year when the next summer season starts. Splash Fest crowds

The Splash Festival in Port Elizabeth is the biggest 4 day beach festival in South Africa and draws thousands of people to Hobie Beach over Easter weekend.  The beach sport like Beach Volleyball and Beach Rugby are always popular events but the thing that pulls the most people to the festival is Saturday night fireworks display on Shark Rock Pier with people searching out good viewing spots from early on already.

Beachfront from a boeing

Do you ever wish you could fly through the air like Superman (or any of the other superheroes from your favourite movie or comic book - or graphic novel like some of the purists would call it.  I may be afraid of heights, but I often do.  Whenever I get the chance to fly somewhere (by plane that is) and look down on Port Elizabeth either leaving or returning, I wish I could get the opportunity to fly along the metro's coastline…
