Humble Ways Road

This afternoon I went for a drive up to Humble Ways private nature reserve on Lovemore Heights.  It wasn't that I wanted to go for a walk, I just wanted to drive down the track to the gate through the vegetation tunnel around the track.

Honeymoon suite at Plantation

It feels weird to be married for 15 years and then to say you're staying in the honeymoon suite.  That's what happened to us a little while ago when we spent an evening at the Plantation courtesy of a prize I won at the #ECMeetup bloggers event.  If you think the room looks cool you should have seen the picnic dinner we got.

Plantation chapel

I won a night at The Plantation at the #ECMeetup recently and a few weeks ago the Damselfly and I made use of my prize (which I still need to post about).  The afternoon after checking in we took a walk around the property and I snapped this pic of the chapel entrance - seeing that they're a wedding venue and all..

Driving between Wilderness and George along the back roads

Last Thursday morning I did a presentation at a tourism stakeholder workshop in the Tsitsikamma and after lunch moved on to George for a weekend exhibit.  Having had some time on my hands I decided to veer off the main road and pick up a few Geocaches along Bo-Langvlei Road, the dirt road running behind the lakes between Sedgefield and Wilderness.  The plan wasn't to do the whole road but only the last section of it starting between Bo-Langvlei and…

Pollok to Hobie

I took this picture looking from the rocks at Pollok Beach back towards Hobie Beach the other day just as the little army chopper came flying past.  Was wondering if I should post the picture when I saw somebody with a similar pic as their masthead pic on Facebook.  At least I'm not the only one who likes the view so here it is for your enjoyment.

Learning to surf in PE with the guys from Chasing the Rainbow

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2frVCrCcfGs&w=500&h=400]I love the fact that the family from Chasing the Rainbow also do video posts in addition to their general travel blogs and today I feature one of their videos as my Video Friday post again.  With non of them having surfed before they decided to go for a surfing lesson at Oceanside Surf Store at Kings Beach using the Nelson Mandela Bay 5 in 1 Pass.

Butcher Block Umhlanga – the BEST steak I have ever had

I don't think there is anybody out there (except obviously vegetarians or vegans) who doesn't love a good steak.  Not everybody can make a good steak though.  I have tried many times and just can't get it right.  It's always either done to much or not enough and I think the Damselfly may even have given up on me finally producing her the perfect steak.  But there are those who CAN make the perfect steak and on my visit to Umhlanga recently…

Aloes along the beachfront boardwalk

Aloes flowering next to the beachfront boardwalk just beyond the lollipop beacon on the corner of Marine Drive and Admiralty Way.

Pollok Beach in reverse

We all know where Pollok Beach is and what it looks like.  We normally look at it from the side of the parking area at Something Good.  Have you ever walked down to the far side and looked back along Pollock Beach?  Ok, so you're not allowed to answer this question if you take part in Parkrun because then you would run along this beach from this side every Saturday anyway.

Splash pool at low tide

Yesterday afternoon I had a workshop to attend at the Summerstand Hotel and on the way realised I was slightly early. I pulled over at the Pollok Beach parking area and took a walk down to the natural tidal pool by the hole in the rock. We spent many Sunday afternoons swimming in this pool when I was small and I just realised again that I should have brought my KidZ here more often when they were smaller. Perhaps when…
