Those who have ever walked around the veld in the Karoo would know what I talk about when I mention the ants dance. Its those little hops you make while shaking your feet and legs and slapping with your hands when big ants climb up for a lift.
The second day on my visit to Graaff Reinet, the area was hit by a huge thunder storm which dumped a lot of water. The next morning out on my early morning walk looking for something to photograph, I noticed dark spots on the ground. On closer inspection I realised it was fresh excavations by the ants that were causing it. The ants were clearing their nests.
…and before long I was on all fours chasing ants with my camera
Ants are awesome, though I don't like lots of them crawling on me, especially if they bite. These are great macros Jonker. I have to laugh. You and Joan, crawling around to take pics of bugs. 😉
LOLOL! I love it! GREAT PICTURES of ants that make you dance ! =0)
I'm sorry but that's icky, however they are great photos!!Gill in Canada
Definately not an ant fan myself…insidious creatures…but I really like the last photo…kind of cool to see them close up. This just might cause me to become a reformed ant squasher…hmmm…we'll see
LOL!! Of course Gaelyn would see the funny side of this but your “dance” does describe it perfectly Jonker. 🙂 It is no fun being bitten by these fellows. Ask me, I know!! Great pictures!!
MONSTER ANTS!!!!!kill them…*giggle*
Amazing creatures! As a child I played for hours with ants, building fancy structures over the entrances to their nests with bits and pieces of glass and porcelain. You might think that weird, but remember I spent most of my free time in the veldt as a child. What is weird is that the boys use to challenge us to eat them and we did. They have a sour taste.
What a great magro shot that last one is! I know those ants well and sjoe, they can bite!! I've taken lots of little skippity steps on walks in the veld 😉
