Paddling on the Sundays River

The Sundays River Valley and Addo is synonymous with the Addo Elephant National Park and have never really been a holiday destination unless you went to visit the Addo Park.  But this has all changed.  The Addo area is about so much more than just elephants these days.  It has actually developed into a holiday destination all on its own.  Addo and its elephants are still the big attraction, but the area around the park has also turned into an adventure and activity mecca.  Zip…

Paddling on the PE beachfront

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsGP32pagw8&w=500&h=400]Port Elizabeth offers so many water sport and activity opportunities.  We really are super fortunate to live on Algoa Bay with everything it offers.  Check out this YouTube video of MyLifeInTransit and his dad going paddling along the Port Elizabeth beachfront.  Along the way they came across a pod of dolphins which can only be described as a magical experience.

The Riderless Horse Memorial

The Horse Memorial has always been one of my favorite monuments around Port Elizabeth.  Not just for what it looks like, but more importantly for what it stands for.  Port Elizabeth was the main port of entry for horses and mules used by the British forces during the Anglo Boar War (1899 - 1902).  During the war more than 300 000 horses died in British service.  The people of Port Elizabeth was very much aware of the plight of the…

Heading home after a day at the beach

We went for a late afternoon walk on the beachfront last Saturday and at one stage walked behind these two ladies with their kids heading home after a day at the beach.  I'm not big on people photography but I love this pic.  Perhaps I should try more of it.

Inter house athletics

It is summer and schools have started so it means that it is athletics time.  Over the last week and a half I attended both KidZ' inter house athletics meets.  First it was Chaos Boy who is in DF Malherbe High School and had their inter house day at the NMMU track. A week later Drama Princess, who is at Newton Park Primary School, had theirs at the Oval in Richmond Hill.  A day like this brings back lots of memories…

Splish Splash

A late Saturday afternoon walk along the beachfront and the water looked very inviting.  Unfortunately we were on our way to friends for dinner and I didn't have my costume on.  I did have my camera though.

The Queen Elizabeth visits Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth is slowly becoming a more and more popular stopover spot for cruise ships.  Today the city was extremely fortunate to have the Queen Elizabeth visit for the day.  The Queen Elizabeth is a Vista-class cruise ship operated by the Cunard Line.  She is the second largest ship constructed for Conurd, exceeded only by its sister ship Queen Mary 2.  The ship was launched in January 2010 and had her maiden voyage in October of that year. Although you could…

A Labyrinth is not a Maze

What is the difference between a maze and a labyrinth.  Although the two terms are basically synonymous, there is a difference.  In this case a maze refers to a complex branching multicursal puzzle with choices of path and direction, while a unicursal labyrinth has only a single path to the center. A labyrinth in this sense has an unambiguous route to the center and back and is not difficult to navigate. The difference between the two meant the KidZ learned something during our…
