There are few flowers, in my mind, that comes close to the aloe when in full flower. Driving through the countryside and seeing
hundreds of these magnificent flowers in full bloom makes me want to stop and pull out my camera. This one I photographed in the
Gamtoos Valley west of Port Elizabeth.
Look spectacular they do. If you ever need an id on a succulent – Ernst van Jaarsveld at Kirstenbosch is your man.
Without our aloes, the winters would be a dull and dreary place. They give us such a lovely bit of colour.
Sorry I haven't visited in a while. Busy with back to school (for me). I have never seen one of these flower! Of course, on this side of the globe, they are novelty houseplants. (I would gladly trade your few more weeks of sun for our few less weeks of rain.)
I agree – aloes are striking! You've captured this one well! Previous post – didn't know there was a wreck on that side of the bay – must look at my photos from Signal Hill – would it be visible, I wonder? or is it too far? Rather ugly though – spoils the scenery, I think!

Excellent!I wonder what such a flower would look like, and what photographs one could get, with the flower potted and against a solid background. Just pondering what could be.
I love aloes, especially the intense colours of their flowers. That orange is awesome!
That is vibrantly gorgeous! I've only seen them bloom in the wild. Or maybe a nursery. I've never had luck getting my houseplant version to bloom.
