One of the iconic buildings in Port Elizabeth Central is Pineview, which is situated between Donkin Street and Ivy Terrace. When you contrast this building and Cora Terrace with the earlier post on the Victoria Hotel, you can see what a difference having a heart and a passion for our City and our heritage can achieve.

This is White's Road, from the edge of the cliffs in Donkin Reserve, just before sunrise. The jungle -like gardens along the side of the road give it a wonderful mysterious quality (warning to potential tourists... do not do this without your can of pepper spray handy!)

Anyone in PE who is a fan of good coffee will know Mastertons, in Russell Road. Funnily enough, it is not so much for the lovely aroma, because they don't brew coffee there, but roast it, so the smell in the street is often more acrid than delicious, but they produce wonderful blends. Our shift of Neighbourhood Watch patrol was from 2-5am this morning, so we got to see the end of the New Year's Party in Parliament Street. This was taken at 4.48am, when the party had just ended, and the street took on a warm glow from the lights reflecting on the wet streets. By the way, judging by all those pavement decorations, are we to assume the architects of this new look had a lot of balls? hehe.
Looking down Leather Lane from Municipality Road, towards the Russell Road Cemetary and the Dutch Reformed Church, in Campbell Street. The grave of James Langley Dalton, who was awarded Victoria Cross, after the battle of Rorkes Drift, can be seen at this cemetary. I will feature his grave in the new year.
The cinema complex on the corner of Havelock Street and Rink Street shut its doors a while back and it is nice to see that it has reopened under new management. This shows that there are still people who have faith in the future of Central and are willing to make a commitment.We haven't been there yet, but will make a point of going there soon.
