Prince Alfred Guard flower
I snapped this picture at the Prince Alfred Guard Memorial in Port Elizabeth the other day. I hadn't been to the monument for a while and stopped by to see if I could get a couple of photos from angles that I haven't taken there before.

Development soccer
There is a development soccer tournament being run alongside the 2010 FIFA World Cup on the B field at the Port Elizabeth Fan Fest at St Georges Park. The tournament is organised along the same lines as the World Cup with local club and school teams (male and female age group and open teams) representing the countries playing in the tournament. The competition is also into the knockout stages now some have gone to penalty shootouts.

Park and Ride
To avoid too much traffic congestion around the stadium (as well as the fact that there isn't too much parking available), the city has implemented a Park & Ride system during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. There are three designated and secure Park & Ride areas around Port Elizabeth where soccer fans can leave their vehicles and take the shuttles to the stadium. Pretoria skyline
On my last trip to Johannesburg I popped up to Pretoria to visit the Voortrekker Monument. It was a very misty morning and the Pretoria skyline was just just visible in the fog. Pretoria is South Africa's capital city and forms part of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan. Beachfront flags
The Kings Beach parking area is one of the transport pickup points for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The majority of soccer fans staying on the beachfront would thus make use of this to get to the stadium for matches. Obviously the soccer memorabilia traders figured that out before the event and have set up shop along the walkway where the Kings Beach Flea Market would normally trade from on the weekends. Sharing a meal
A couple of pachyderms having a meal together at the Addo Elephants National Park just outside Port Elizabeth. I just loved the fact that the second elephant actually looks like the first one's reflection.

Face paint or war paint
With the England vs Slovenia game in Port Elizabeth last week I noticed that there were quite a few people on the beachfront offering face painting services to fans. Specially the English fans were queuing up to get the England flag either painted on their cheeks or have their whole face coloured in. I imagine that this kind of face painting would be termed war paint.

Commemoration Methodist Church
The Commemorative Methodist Church, or as the locals call it The Commem, stands at the bottom of church square in the beautiful Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown. The church was completed in 1850 and was built along the Gothic Revival lines which was very "in" at that stage. Boardwalk invasion
England played against Slovenia at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Thursday and they estimated that 20 000 England supporters descended on the city. Before the game the England fans flocked to the beachfront for a couple of beers before heading to the stadium.
